my gggrandfather William McKenzie and wife sailed from Hobart to new Zealand in about 1865-1868. they must have been in new Plymouth ( l am told taranaki bay ) when William saved somebody from drowning. he was given a bravery award. it was donated back to the museum there in recent years. also in about the 1880s his son alexander saved people from drowning in thames. he was presented with his award in aukland. l have had a look in a few newspapers but can't find anything. don't know where to look. regards jenny
