I am trying to acquire information on a Dunedin - Otago war veteran of the American Civil War. John Scott was born about 1828, near Glasgow, Scotland, married Ann Hamilton, on December 17, 1852, was a Confederate blockade runner during the American Civil War, and later settled in New Zealand. He worked for the New Zealand Refrigerating Company and was a member of the Ayrshire Association of Otago around 1900. On December 17, 1902, Scott and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, at which gathering some 41 descendants were in attendance, including 28 grandchildren. A photograph of the group was taken, and was published in the local newspaper. On June 9, 1905, John Scott died in Dunedin and buried at the Northern Cemetery in Dunedin. Any information anyone can provide on John Scott, his life or his family would be greatly appreciated. jamesmgray@bigpond.com
