Re: Hazel Eva MOONEY

Auckland Star, Volume LII, Issue 261, 2 November 1921, Page 4
An originating summon, in the estate of Daniel Gascoyne, deceased, wherein Eva Mooney was plaintiff and the trustees of the will were defendants, was heard before Mr. Justice .Stringer in the Supreme Court. The question involved was as to the construction of the will of the deceased whereby he had erroneously described the object of his bounty as "my step-daughter; Hazel Mooney," whereas Hazel Mooney was the daughter of the step-daughter, the mother's name being Eva. Mr. J. A. Beale appeared in support of the summons and Mr. H. J. Durham represented the guardian ad them to the infant Hazel Mooney. His Honor made an order that the error should be rectified by substituting the name of the plaintiff Eva Mooney as the beneficiary in place of her daughter,Hazel Mooney.

Eva MOONEY (nee SMITH) mother's marriage
Mary Ann SMITH, married Daniel GASCOYNE - NZ Reg # 1903/3930
10th August 1903 - strange though as a Newspaper has them marrying 10 August 1906? see below - I would say the BMD is incorrect.

MARRIAGES.
Auckland Star, Volume XXXVII, Issue 104, 2 May 1906, Page 9
GASCOYNE—SMITH.—On August 10, by Mr E. H. Lyons, Daniel Gascoyne to Mary Ann Smith (nee Mary Ann Martin); Both of Auckland

Auckland Star, Volume LXVII, Issue 214, 9 September 1936, Page 1
MOONEY.—On September 8, 1936, at the Auckland Hospital, Eva, dearly beloved mother or Hazel Mooney. Rest in peace. Private interment

"LIFE'S SEAMY SIDE."
New Zealand Herald, Volume XLIX, Issue 14900, 27 January 1912, Page 5
WIPE'S UNREASONABLE CLAIM. TOO FOND OF HOLIDAYS.
A woman named Eva Mooney, who came into Court carrying, her 11 months old little, girl, asked for a; separation order and maintenance from her husband f Mark Mooney.- Both were evidently respectable persons, and Mr.Kettle had a lot of difficulty in finding out what was- the real -cause of the trouble between the couple. The, complainant said the defendant had sent her away in such a manner that an easy inference was drawn that he did not want her any more. This was not the defendant's view of the matter. He said: that his wife did -not want to, live with him, and was continually going away. On one occasion, when he sent her £15, she went away to Sydney without giving him .any notice of her intention to do so, and she returned without any money. When he sent her £4 on another occasion she went for a trip to Hastings to see her sister. Moreover, when living at home she neglected her household duties and was without reasonable cause exceedingly jealous. His Worship heard a good deal of evidence, from both husband and wife. He decided that he could make no order against the husband, who appeared to be quite willing to fulfil all the obligations cast upon him. To make such an order would be to encourage, other women to bring their husbands to Court upon similarly unreasonable grounds. The information was dismissed. Mr. Grundy, counsel for the defendant, said the husband was quite willing to support his wife and child, as he had previously done.

In 1923 Eva was again chasing Mark for Maintenance. Stating that he had deserted her 7 years prior.

Cheers
Tania

Greetings,

I see that you posted this a few years ago now. I am a descendant of Adeline Hill (parents are John Hill and Isobella Adamson. I only have information from this website with the exception of a photograph of Adeline Hill and her marriage certificate. I am always keen to learn more about the family. I heard a "rumour" that Adeline Hill lived in St Heliers (moved from Whangarei to Auckland where she was born), and so did some research in the weekend at the St Heliers library. There was a little information of Ellen Adamson wife of James Adamason (died 29 MArch 1850), she was the mother of Ann Adamson (who married a well known settler William Innes Taylor). Not sure if this fits into the family history but I wrote the info down anyway.

Beryl Constance Dickey m. William Gunson

William Harold Gunson, born about 1896 in New Zealand, probably at Maunu, Whangeri, Northland, son of William James and Rose Emily (nee Hartnell) Gunson married 1) Eleanor Locke Walker about 1921. She died 29 Oct 1970, age 74, probably at Maunu, and was buried with her hus-band at Maunu Cemetery, Whangarei, Forest Lawn Block Forteen, Plot 733.

I've been told William married 2) Beryle Constance Dickey about 1947, her second marriage. I don't know if Dickey was her maiden name or first married name.

Marsden, Northland, Electoral Rolls show Eleanor Locke Gunson, married, and William Harold Gunson, farmer, living in Maungatapere in 1949. No Beryle Gunson on that roll.

In the Marsden, Northland, 1954 electoral rolls, William Harold Gunson is still farming in Maungatapere and Eleanor is also there, still "married."

In the 1954 Ponsonby, Auckland, general roll is a William Gunson, mattress maker and Beryl Constance Dickey, both at 84 Jervois Rd. R4. It appears to me that I've been lead astray; that Beryl's husband William Gunson is someone other than William Harold Gunson son of parents described above.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has verification of the parentage of Beryl Constance Dickey's husband, William Gunson.

Please direct response by e-mail to hartnellsl(at)comcast (dot)net

Thank you in advance.
In 1938, a Hazel Mooney married George Willdridge. In 1979 George Willdridge died and was cremated at Tauranga Cremations. He was 67 years old, giving a birth year of about 1912.

Hazel Willdridge died in 2001, and her birth date in the death index is given as 14 Mar 1911. You could order her death certificate to verify if it is the Hazel you seek. Death Reg 2001/8676 Willdridge Hazel

Wow thanks. We have been searching everywhere for information - all I could locate was Joe Louis' naturalisation record and a record for Joseph Lewis, believe he was his son?

I am waiting on his death certificate to find out more information, but I don't know what that will show yet.

My great-grandad, Henry Joseph Lewis, it seems moved to Auckland and kept separate from the rest of the family. His wife also died very young and my grandad Henry Allan Lewis was raised in an orphanage we have been told - so we lost a lot of that information.

I have attached two very poor scans of my grandad Lewis, and great-grandad Lewis.

If you do manage to find any information, would love to have a look - my ancestry.com may expire but my email is natashalewishoneyman@gmail.com.

I live in Australia, but my nanna is still living in New Zealand.

Thanks

Natasha
I still haven't found a birth record for my great-grandfather Henry Joseph Lewis.

Have located a record for who I believe to be my great-great-grandfather Joseph Louis (Joe) from Portugal, naturalised in 1910. Lived in Batley, near Kaipara Harbour.

Still cannot locate any marriages, births of their children. They only start to appear on electorial rolls after 1910 once naturalised.

If anyone knows of Lewis, Louis, or Luiz connections in Norhtland please let me know.

Thanks Wendy

I am suspecting that it is a name variation - as there is a family rumour that the spelling was changed. Very frustrating!

I suspect born in 1895 from marriage certificate age, but not register of birth. I did manage to find that Bentley isn't really a place today, but it is associated with Kaipara, there is a Bentley Rd today in that area. And WW1 enlistment record from 1919 that I suspect to be same person, registers home location as Kaipara.

May have to book a holiday to NZ to go through their records, unfortunatley, I am in AUS (: Will have a look at that geneology group and see.

Thanks for your tips.

Natasha

Do you know where Bentley is/was? I don't recognise the name, can't find it on a map, and it's not in my 1952 NZ Guide. The Kaipara Harbour is a very large body of water, with a huge coastline.

What are you calling "late 1800's"? Can you be more specific?

It might be that you're dealing with a spelling variation on LEWIS, which means it could be difficult to find the right entries at BDM Online - Historical Records (https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/) as it only deals with exact spellings.

You may have more success looking at the older microfiche indexes, where you can see a whole page of entries at a time, so variations on LEWIS would be easier to find. You'll find the fiche in libraries and genealogy groups around the country, and if you're a member of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists (NZSG, http://www.genealogy.org.nz/) you can use their Research Service to have an NZSG volunteer look up their copies for you, for free.

Then, of course, some births were never officially recorded. :-(

Hope this helps. :-)

Kind Regards,
Wendy

Looking for connections for Lewis family, possibly from Kaipara, Bentley.

Have names Jopseph and Missie Lewis, born late 1800's, but they are not showing on BM&D register, although marriage certificate of son, Joseph Henry Lewis, is showing that he was born in Bentley.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

There is no Olive GIBBS, or Olive AUSTIN, in the online death indexes - BDM Online - Historical Records (https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/) - fitting your description. If she had died in New Zealand, I'd expect to find her there.

Likewise, I don't see her listed in the phone book (http://yellow.co.nz/whitepages/), but there are people named GIBBS living in Whangarei and one or more may be related to her and be able to tell you how to get in touch.

Hope this helps. :-)

Kind Regards,
Wendy

Hello,
I am trying to find information on Olive Rose Ena Gibbs (previously Mason, maiden name Austin.)

She appears in the 1978 and 1981 Electoral registers. Her address is given as: 3/36 Kauika Road, Whangarei in 1978 - Living with her husband, Edward Victor Gibbs.

And in 1981 - 3/190 Kamo Road, Whangarei. Edward died in 1980.

Olive was born in West Ham, Essex, England in 1915.

What I would like to know is if Olive is still alive or not and if not, when she died. If anyone could help at all, I would really appreciate it.
Best Wishes.

Jo

I am most interested in anything about Walter Frederick Gibbs. I see he was listed as a "Salesman" in 1928. He left NZ for Australia sometime between 1928 and 1935.

Thanks very much for the information.

Cheers

Lynne Simpson
