I see you have a very detailed history of the Duncan family in New Zealand.
I am researching my great grand aunt Rachel Dunbar and her family in Scotland. Given the surnames are not uncommon and the given names are common, I have been struggling a bit to piece things together.
I have Rachel's parents as
John Dunbar
Birth 08 May 1780 in Glamis, Angus, Scotland
Death 04 Jun 1865 in Houghs of Cossin, Glamis, Angus, Scotland
Margaret Clark
Birth 13 Jan 1789 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland
Death 3 Jan 1890 in Wroxeter, Huron County, Ontario, Canada
Children
Rachel Dunbar1811 – 1907
James Dunbar1816 –
Christian Dunbar1821 –
Isabella Dunbar1829 – 1917
William Dunbar1829 –
Alexander Dunbar1831 –
Margaret Dunbar1836 –
George Dunbar1840 –
We believe Margaret Clark arrived in Canada in the 1850s with some of the children. The question is why and where was John Dunbar? He is listed as widower on his death record in Scotland. To further muddy the waters the 1901 Canada Census says Isabella Dunbar arrived in 1837 which would make her 8 at the time. That seems more like she came with a bigger part of the family. I have been unable to find an immigration record to support any of this.
Several researchers seem to support what we think we know but it is possible there are some bad connections in all this.
Wondering if anyone can shed some light on this?
