Hi Robert
Give me a couple of days to get to Archives NZ and have a look at the 'Notice of Intention to Marry' for this couple. This will show the location of the marriage, maybe a parental name (if one or both parties was under 21) and how long each person had been in the area.
The Notice is the equivalent of the modern-day application for a marriage license - unfortunately, in 1861 they didn't record as much info as today but what there is, is useful. Usually the only extra info you'll get on a copy of the actual marriage registration is the details of the witnesses.
