The latter is off WESTERN AUSTRALIA in the Indian Ocean
and has nothing what so ever to do with Tasmania. Its in fact where they send all the refugee boat people to that come illegally to Australia.

But I am sure the Admin already knew that as they have researched the islands so they said when they emailed me.

Was originally on the NEW YEAR ISLAND BOARD but moved here by admin of that board because they have made a mistake as no one lives on New Year Island or Christmas Island's in the vicinity of Tasmania only Birds and Snakes.

I am looking for the family of AL B TROSS who lived on New Year Island in the 1930's
His wife was Mary C GULL and they had 5 children.
Al liked to fish as they were non meat eaters and ran a fishing business.His wife Mary made feather eiderdowns.

They left the Island in the late 40's
Any information on their where abouts would be greatly appreciated

Of course he researched them. I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason for having a rootsweb board about a game preserve, and that Stephen will eventually enlighten us.

Perhaps in the meantime, we could start a discussion about the evolution of the local species?

Christmas Island is an island nature reserve, with an area of 63.49 ha, in south-eastern Australia. It is part of Tasmania’s New Year Island Group which includes the much larger King Island, lying north-west of Tasmania in Bass Strait.
Breeding seabird and shorebird species include Little Penguin, Short-tailed Shearwater, Pacific Gull, Silver Gull, Sooty Oystercatcher, Pied Oystercatcher and Black-faced Cormorant. Reptiles include Tiger Snakes and lizards. A species of mouse is present.

Welcome to the Christmas Island Message Board.

Christmas island is a non-self governing territory of Australia, situated in the Indian Ocean, south of Indonesia. The official language is English although Chinese and Malay are also spoken.

Named in 1643 for the day of its discovery, the island was annexed and settlement began by the UK in 1888. Phosphate mining began in the 1890s with the UK transferring sovereignty to Australia in 1958. Almost two-thirds of the island has been declared a national park.
