Thankyou both for the information, it is filling in a few gaps..
Their is another daughter GRACE SARAH i didnt mention her before because in 1911 she was living with grandparents in wales, and she wasn't relevant to my 1st question, but i would be gratefull of any information on her.
Also does any1 have access to birth records i'd be interested to know if edgar and mabel had anymore children.

Yes thnks I was aware this is the WA board.Richard and Elinor lived( and died there as per my prev post) there had more children b. WA and those children/grandchildren etc still live in WA.
What I had posted is all I had at the time on this line, I was after anyone who could help with the extensions of that information I had.

There is no Census 1911 to look up in Australia. There are Electoral Rolls up to 1954.

John James came to perth 08/04 1863 with his parents Wlliam and Mary and sister Eliza on board the burlington Mary died soon after in child birth John James married Mary Ann Bourke they had one daughter and five sons one being my great uncle John (Jack)I have photos of both John and Jack family rumour claims uncle Jack was poisoned by his wife the german they must be talking about Breta sounds like a good story if you are interested in any photos any more detail please contact me have a nice day

I went there on a school camp in 1984 (we were in Year 4) - we stayed in the up stairs dormitory. Bags fell off the top bunk when no one was in the room, my bunk shook wildly one night (i was too frightened to move or say anything) - it was nearly off it's hinges in the morning - the guy on the bottom bunk slept like a baby. I also had someone breathe on me for at least half and hour right into my ear (I peeked at one point and no-one was there) and just before dawn heard whaling noises - I found out a fair bit later that another kid on another bunk experienced the breathing as well.

My grandmother married James, then left him & two sons in WA, dont know if in Boulder or Perth, she moved to Adelaide sometime before 1924 & had my father. Her other sons stayed with their father in Perth & died Subiaco. I am hopeful of finding someone in the family as there are a lot of names on their headstones at Karrakatta Cem but have been unable to find anyone related to this Coffey family yet. UK FreeBMDs have an Arthur and David JAVENS recorded at Spilsby in the 1860s. Maybe brothers or cousins? Two others were recorded at Mildenhall in the 1870s. A marriage for Arthur was at Mildenhall in 1884.

Five of the marriages in Western Australia were children whose births were recorded at St Ives. Maybe children of Arthur?

David and Arthur settled near each other south of Perth WA.

Scandal!! I take it John's family didn't like Breta one little bit (not a good time in history to have German ancestry, of course).

Hi I gather you are not in Western Australia (WA for short).

Katanning, Kojanup, Bridgetown, Manjimup and Albany are in the south of the state.

Manjimup is a town in Western Australia, 307 kilometres (191 mi) south of the state capital, Perth.

Katanning is a town located 277 km south east of Perth, Western Australia on the Great Southern Highway.

Kojonup is a town located 256 km south-east of Perth, Western Australia along Albany Highway.

Bridgetown is a town in the South West region of Western Australia, approximately 270 kilometres (168 mi) south of Perth on the Blackwood River at the intersection of South Western Highway with Brockman Highway to Nannup and Augusta.

Albany is located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, situated around a port on the southern coast.

All the areas were known for farming among other.

I can only assume from the shipping list post in your first reply that the Javens are all from one family (children of David & Sarah?) Anyway if I can be of further help, just let me know.

I am not related but think I have found James' birth in NSW in Menindie in 1882 (reg 28947) to William Ryan and Jane COFFEY. It is 100km from Broken Hill but his family moved there by 1892 and most of his siblings married there.

His father William Ryan COFFEY died in 1899 in Broken Hill (reg 4950, as COFFEE), son of Malachi & Catherine. There was an article in the newspaper about it:

The West Australian, Thursday 29 June 1899
FATAL ACCIDENT AT BROKEN HILL.
Sydney, June 27.
William Ryan Coffey, au old identity of the Barrier, was found lying on the ground on the road near Broken Hill last night. He was breathing heavily, and blood was oozing from his mouth and nostrils. He was taken to the police station and medical assistance was obtained, but he expired before it was ascertained what was wrong with him.

Likely death for his mother as Jane COFFEY in Broken Hill in 1914 (reg 18283). William and Sarah J (nee RYAN) married in Menindie in 1876 (reg 3264). I speculate she was Sarah Jane but known as Jane; the births show both variously for their 9 children born 1877-1894. You would need to order James' birth certificate to be sure of course (or use a transcription agent to check specific fields).

Also on the naa site, if you click on passenger search it will show you that Mr E & Mrs F CROSSWELL came to Fremantle from London aboard Orsova, arriving on 11 Jan 1923 (right in the middle of summer - must have been quite a shock!)

Cottesloe is a western suburb of Perth, has a lovely beach. Fremantle is a different place altogether (our main port and a city in its own right).

Yes I am a MOGG descendant and I have a database of MOGGs worldwide. Most of the information I hold comes from all UK census returns (1841 to 1911)plus original parish registers.

I have Ernest Frank Crosswell born 06 feb 1900 married to Hilda Clara Ethel Moggin 1922 at Droxford HAM.

Hilda was one of 10 children born to Charles Mogg & Bertha Mary Lewis in Dorset & Hampshire between 1898 & 1918.

I have some more info. about Hilda's ancestors if you want it.

Thanks for your response. Am I right in suggesting that you are a decendant of the Mogg family?

I am at present following the journey down the Crosswell line. If my suggestion is correct, I will retain this information and may return to it sometime in the future.

As it appears we have a common ancestor I hope we may be able to help each other in the future.

Family relatives had told me that they were married just before Xmas and left just after.

Thanks for your reply. I'm in England so am having to take a crash course in Australian geography. I have found that David and Arthur Javens were brothers. Presumably all the children belonged to them but which is which is something I have to figure out.

I've done that trip from the UK on a boat leaving in December and arriving in January! as a 7 year old.
In fact I did it five times, as a 9 yr old, 14yrs,
21yrs and 23yrd old! All on a boat, after that I flew.
But it was not till I was 47yrd old! LOL

Very frustrating as a child to leave dear old England in
the snow and to get to Fremantle in the heat of summer.
We lived in North Street, Cottesloe.
I do not think Fremantle is so bad I've seen lots of
ports many times worse.
