Hello,
I am desperately trying to find any info on my biological father, Robert Christie Snr, born in Avoca, Victoria around 1906. My mother, Edna Frances Levison (nee Skermer) gave birth to me in Lorne, Victoria in 1960. I was made a State Ward along with my 5 other siblings (including my younger sister, Leonie Levison, in 1961). The only other information I know about my biological father is that he was 54yo at the time of my birth and was working as a motor mechanic. He was living in Erskine Falls when he registered my birth. As I was an illegitimate child, not all the details may be 100% accurate. Robert Christie Snr supposedly moved to New Zealand in 1963 (Wellington?). Although my mother Edna, was married to Edwin Levison, she never remarried after he deserted her around 1948. Although I am slowly piecing the puzzle together on my mother's side, I have no leads in regards to my father. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Robbie Christie

Hi Robert, Ancestry online Electoral Rolls have large gaps between the years available but if you can find the full rolls at a major library, public record office or FHS a search of years 1959/1960 for that area looking for a Robert CHRISTIE motor mechanic might help.
Geesh how many garages were there in that area in 1959/1960? If he was 54yo (or there abouts) there is a good chance he was already married so may have fibbed a bit.
NZ BDM is online (just google) I could not see a definite for him but maybe you can pick a few possibles and try to trace them back to VIC. Most NZ cemeteries are online also so might be worth a search there. Also try NZ Archives.

Thanks Kelly! I have got the Avoca and Districts Historical Society researching for me too. I did find a Lawrence Gordon Archer Christie who did seem to fit some of the info we had (as Robert apparently was an 'alias' he used) but was told unequivocally that he was not the person I was looking for by family on ancestry lol. Not sure if it was because I was illegitimate and an 'embarrassment' to the family. I just want to find out if I have any siblings from his side of my family. I have already found 5 siblings on my mum's side (contacted one sister who hung up on me and two who have already passed on). It would be nice to find a sibling who is willing to at least acknowledge my existence :( Will keep plodding along...thanks for your reply Kellie
Cheers

Instead of ringing, try writing a letter to them. A phone call out if the blue can be a little disconcerting. If they have a letter they can think about it. Good luck. Pam
