Looking for more information on Johann Carl August Kruger, born in Kottbus, Spree-Neisee, Brandenburg, Germany on Jan 11, 1802, Died on Oct 24, 1871 in Australia. He was married to Maria Duch and had 4 children:

August Carl Kruger - 1834-1904
Gustav Kruger - 1838-1910
Johann Theodore Kruger - 1839-1875
Maria Auguste Kruger - 1844-1923

I have the 1840 Census :) I'm looking to find out who Johann's Parents where?? I have all the information for Johann's kids, nothing for his parents.

I am very much a hobbiest at this. I recently made a query on another board and got some great help from someone by searching BDM's for Vic but they said they didn't have 1914-1920 and suggested I ask here if someone could assist.

So, is anyone able to check BDM for Vic between 1914-1920 for, specifically, Sarah Ellen Sidebottom (nee Dimmick), spouse of John Sidebottom. Any info please, especiialyl parents, siblings etc.

We recently discovered that my great grandmother gave birth to a son c1887 in Sandhurst, Vic., about 18 months prior to marrying her husband. Her son Ronald, died in 1962, age 75, stating his occupation as having been a Fireman.

We are trying to ascertain more about this uncle that my mother, her sister and her cousins knew nothing of.

Does anybody know of there are any historical employee records for the Melbourne Fire Brigade.

Hi, I'm after information on the Ryan clan that settled in Camperdown in the 1850s. John Ryan and Ann Dwyer were there at least from the 1860s and had 8 children: Michael, John, James and Bridgett (all dead before 1909) and Margaret, William, Johanna and Jeremiah.

Henry Chandley and Margaret Brannelley (sp?) were married there in 1854. One of their children, Maria, married William Ryan. They had 6 children: Annie Elizabeth, Mary Margaret, John Josiah, Henry James (my grandfather), Helen Agnes, and Elizabeth Gertrude.

If anyone has any information about these people, I'd love to chat!

Stanley was born in Cape Town South Africa about 1920, immigrated about 1966 to MELBOURNE Victoria Australia. I believe he died about 1994 Victoria Australia. I dont know if he was Married or not.

Mother Mabel Barbara Jones (nee Jeffries)immigrated about 1948 in MELBOURNE Victoria Australia. I believe she may have Married about 1950 to a Man surname LESAR.

Gordon Andrew Jones another son of Mabel's came to Australia in about 1943/44. He married in Sydney in December 1944 and Died Sydney March 1962.

Gordon and Stanley's father was Longston Arthur Jones. L believe he died in South Africa before 1948 but I may be wrong.
Can anyone confirm any of this and if there are any living relitives of Mabel, Mr Lesar, and Stanley. Any info would be of great help

Researching James Carlton and his daughter Almedia Carlton

I am seeking information on a James Carlton who married a Frances (nee Cassidy). Frances seems to have several other last names so may have had marriages before or after her marriage to James. Frances' other last names are Driscoll and White. I cannot find any record of any one of these marriages in Australia or a record of their deaths. James and Frances had a daughter Almedia (Media) Carlton, supposedly born in Sydney NSW abt 1868 but I cannot find a record of her birth. She died in Melbourne in 22 Oct 1892 (confirmed with a death certificate). On Almedia's marriage certificate to a William Robb, her father James' occupation is noted as Contractor. If anyone has any suggestions or information please contact me.

He was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on 13 November 1871, son of Alexander Matthew and Mary Johnston. He married Elizabeth Jane Penelope Sutor, who was 22 years his senior, in Edinburgh in 1900, after which I have found no trace of him, except in an online genealogy which says that he married Annie Munro Balfour and died in 1951. Annie Munro Balfour was born in Australia in 1877.

Hello to you all,

In the Goodwin familytree that i am researching are some mysterys that i like to unsolve.

One of them is RITA ADA GOODWIN (born 1908 at Carlton, Victoria, Australia). She married Claude Reginald Brentnall Pearson in 1931 in Victoria.
Claude was born in 1887 in England and died in 1981 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He is burried at the Fawkner cemetery.

One of the mystery's is what happened with Rita after the dead of Claude. The only thing we know is that she died somewhere at the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia and that she was living when Claude died.

The other mystery are the relatives. I like to contact them because a relative of them will be very happy to know them.
When Claude died he had 3 (married) children and 9 grandchildren. Some of this relatives are named "Smith" and "McColl-Jones".

There is an connection also between this family and a family that died on board of the RMS Titanic in 1912.

George Frederick FOSTER and family 1882 onwards

I am hoping that someone can help me to trace my FOSTER relatives who emigrated from Leeds, England to Australia in 1879. I have found records of George Frederick Foster born Leeds 1848 and his wife Agnes who died in 1882, in the Adelaide area of South Australia. However, once George F. remarried to Mary Ann Andres in 1882, the family disappeared from the area and may have moved to Victoria. I am hoping to find a record of George F.'s death (about 1885, I am told) and the marriages of any of his children who were George born abt 1872, Agnes born 1877 and Oscar born 1880. I also wonder if he and Mary Ann had any children together? If anyone can find any records of this family in Victoria, I would love to hear from you. Thank you.

Hi everyone

Following the posts about the Woolshed and Northeast Victoria, I have just seen a new research work on 1,700 names and stories about people who lived nearby or worked on the goldfields. It is a remarkable piece, well, 1100 pages of it, about North Americans, who they married etc. Denise McMahon and Christine Wild have spent years putting this thing together and credit to them, certainly what I found out about my forebears.

I have placed the fuller account on www.americanaustralians.org website but the authors can be contacted on goldfever2008@gmail.com.

You will find useful goodies focussing on miners, shopkeepers, entrepreneurs, and workers who spent time in the northeast of Victoria. Their study identifies and reveals the lives of men and women, describing the ups and downs of their often precarious lives as they sought their fortunes from the ground or from various businesses. Some remained in the Northeast while others moved out across Australia, while some of the Americans returned to the USA. This is a fascinating account not previously seen about the men and women excluded in history books, now part of a painstaking analysis of primary and secondary data, a testament to the meticulousness of the authors.

From the perspective of the Australian Society of American Descendants, it hits the spot, yet another marker in our quest to consolidate our American resource and map the extent of involvement of American immigrants to this country. Always open for more! Sorry for the cross but this is really new and worthwhile and crosses boundaries because of the sheer volume of information.

I am researching the family of George & Agnes HENDERSON who settled in the BUNG BONG district in 1861. They emigrated from CASTLE DOUGLAS, KIRKCUDBRIGHTSHIRE, SCOTLAND and purchased a number of small farms in the HOMEBUSH/BUNG BONG area. They had 13 children, 11 of whom survived to adulthood. The first 2 children, Margaret Jane & Alexander Chartres were born in Scotland. The names LILBURNE, DANIELS, MCDONALD, PORTEOUS, WILLIAMS, NEIL, YATES, CLARK & MORGAN married into George's family. This is a bit of a long shot. A recent found cousin is looking for his step brother James or Jim McMurray who changed his name to Murray. The information is very sketchy and I am not sure where to start. Jims wife is called Marjory, and he may have been born around 1930s, definately emigrated from Falkirk area. They had 2 sons who we think will be in their 40's now, Jason and Scott. Jim worked in Falkirk as a sales rep selling electrical goods, and we think he worked in sales for a medical company after moving to Melbourne. His step brother Andrew Williamson would love to hear from him if possible......if anyone could point us in the right direction we would be very grateful. Both Andrew and Jim relate through many lines.....both McMurray and Williamson to name the two main ones.

HELP to open Victoria Department of Justice webpage

Has anyone had the problem of not being able to get on to the Victoria Department of Justice website to order birth certificates? (http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/).

No matter what I try, I keep getting the message; "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" even though I have specifically allowed the address on my Privacy list in Internet Options.

This is the only site that has ever been blocked to me in this way, so I don't have any clue as to what to do. I can't even email them to tell them my problem.

Any thoughts/ helps on the subject?

arrived in Melbourne aboard the 'Kent" in 1867. They were accompanied by their children, Editha, Theodora, Mabel, John, William. William Snr, a mining engineer was born in Shropshire but came to Cornwall where he married Grace in 1853 in Helston. I am interested in tracing them after their arrival. My ggrandmother's sister Ursula ROBERTS also came out on the "Kent" and her aunt Ursula PEARCE married Henry REYNOLDS a Cornishman, I would like to find out whether or not the two REYNOLDS families are connected.

The listed surnames are all the names I am researching in Australia, in particular Victoria.

I would love to hear from anyone researching the Meatchem family of whom John Meatchem from Kilkenny(born 1843-5)was the first in Australia. He arrived in Tasmania in 1864 to marry Mary Phelan who had arrived a couple of years earlier.They had atleast 2 son's and 1 daughter (who died young) and subsequently moved to Victoria

After her death in Tipp, Victoria in 1873(I would love to find out where Tipp actually is!!!!) He married Jane McNeil/Niel in 1877. I have evidence to suggest they had atleast 10 children

Mary Phelan and John's eldest son also named John married a Berthia Lindsay Bunting in Williamstown in 1888, Her father was named Octavius Augustus William Lindsay Bunting and was a baker orginally from London, England.

John Meatchem (snr) occupation was that of a Labourer whereas his son became a Butcher. Octavius' father was a stonemason.

They all appear to have had connections with Masonic lodges and John Meatchem (jnr) went on to be a founding member of the William Ferguson Massey Lodge in Wellington, New Zealand

Meatchem is an unusual name in Australia, the spelling Meecham or Meacham is far more common.

As far as I can gather these families stayed mainly around Prahan and Williamstown but some moved to New Zealand and I also have certificates for Bendigo

I am particularly keen to move the lines forward in order to try and discover any living relatives however distant

All except James jnr are in Victoria Australia.I have a grandfather Arnold Leslie born Clifton Hill 1899 to Isabella McDougall and James (a carpenter),(marriage certificate) but he has the surname of Silver. Is anyone researching this family and could let me know any details of Arnold Brooks. I don't know if pop lied or it is a completely different Arnold. Family gossip says pop was adopted( can't find any record) and that he had a wife and children in Vic before moving to NSW where he met my gran. His 1st wife was supposedly in a lunatic asylum in Vic.He couldn't/wouldn't divorce her.Gran and pop did not marry till 1931 after my mother and her sister were born.I did find an Arnold Brooks on the prisoner records, but can't get to Vic to have a look.

I'm a history student, and have been researching my own family history for many years. I'm looking for families with ancestors from the above area who may be interested in contributing to a book about the neighbourhood in the 19th century, in an effort to build a more complete picture of life on the goldfields.

The idea is still very embryonic, so a final product may not be available for some time. My own Woolshed family are the Wicks,German market gardeners from Langenhain in Oberhessen, who arrived in the area in about 1860. Other families related to mine in the area include Knowles, Naumann, Robson and Murray.

I would also be interested in hearing from any Byrne and Sherritt descendents, as my GG-grandfather Anton was a good friend of Margret Byrne, and his children attended school with both Aaron and Joe (it’s very hard to get an honest assessment of life for either family, as everyone no matter how unconnected seems to have an opinion.)

Hi

I am trying to locate any information on Jacob Hansen. He migrated to Australia around 1878 from Norway. He came out here with no family that we know of, only ?? Olsen. Who may have been a family friend.

He married Grace Websdale in 1923 at Bairnsdale. They later moved to Eagle Point and lived here until Jacob died in the Bairnsdale Hospital in 1943. They had four children together, 1 girl and three boys.

I do not know much about him as he apparantly never spoke of his childhood, country or parents. If anyone has any information I would be eternally greatful.

I'm hoping there is someone out there with a Clifford Gordon or William Comyn Gordon and Rosetta Alla Shepherd in their family tree. I have a death certificate for Clifford that shows William and Rosetta as his parents, but no birth certificate. He was born on 18 March 1906, and I'm hoping that he was actually a foster child of the Gordon's and took on their surname and was born Clifford Lothian. I have found one family tree with William and Rosetta and there is no Clifford listed (which I think supports my theory) but the author of the tree couldn't shed any light on it for me.
