I am eagerly searching for information on my great grandmother Helen MULLIN (nee DOUGLAS) was born at Moorabool, Victoria in 1850 daughter of William DOUGLAS and Isabella (nee DOUGLAS). She died at the Melbourne Benevolent Asylum in 1929. Her occupatiom was listed as a domestic. I beleive she may have worked there but am uncertain. Any information aboutt her later life in Melbourne is most welcome. She was widowed in 1904 and left Ballarat to live in Melbourne. Also doed anyone know where the Melbourne Benevolent Asylum was located? Do records exist for this institution? Cheers and thanks, Rob

for details of Melbourne Benevolent Asylum. The Benevolent Asylum was initially situated in North Melbourne, later moving out to Cnr Warrigal and Kingston Roads, Cheltenham, and now known as the Kingston Centre.

From the blurb on the Asylum the foundation stone was laid for the North Melbourne facility in 1850. It was not until 1911 that the first lot of patients/inmates were transferred to Cheltenham.
