I'm seeking information for a Margaret Mahoney Born in Port Fairy Victoria around 1889 & possibly resided around the Fitzroy area of Melbourne around 1913,any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi What was the name of her parents?

I have a copy of her daughter Eileen's birth cert dated 12/2/1913 born in Fitzroy, but it does not show who the father was or her parents.

There is a Margaret born Allansford 1888, parents William and Cath Ryan regn #30. Not Pt Fairy but close by. I have a number of Mahoneys from the Koroit/Tower Hill area

The birth certificate for her daughter Eileen born 13/2/1913 shows the Mothers Surname/maiden name as Mahoney Margaret, 24years of age,Place of birth Port Fairy,Victoria
so that would make her Birth date 1889 c, it is obvious that she shifted from that area as Eileen {her daughter}was born in Fitzroy, Melbourne before being placed in the St Josephs Foundling Hospital {babies home} in Broadmeadows,Melbourne around 15/7/1913 some 5 months after birth.
I appreciate that this could be like looking for a needle in a haystack,but one will never know if you don't give it a go !!!

If the daughter was placed in a Babies Home, there will be records. Most likely the child was made a "ward of state" so write or contact the Dept of Human Services, Adoption information services and ask to speak to the person that handles the "State Wards". Ask them to send you a form to fill out and request copies of files under FOI.

When children were put into homes the Mothers were supposed to name the fathers so that the State would get them to pay money to help with their upkeep. They will have a section which states "Reputed Father" and hopefully there will be name there.

I have found out that Margaret Mahoney/Mohoney was born on 2/1/1888 in Allansford Victoria,Gave birth to Eileen Mahoney on 13/2/1913 in Fitzroy, Melbourne before putting her up for fostering in 15/7/1913 that all ok BUT i have come across further info on a individual record from the LDS SITE that shows Margaret dieing in 1977, Burial 7/3/1977 at a place called "Gree" ,Victoria,Australia

the question i'm asking is where the hell is "Gree" or maybe it's short for something else, i'd appreciate any of your thoughts on this one.

Apparently the notes and sources are on CD-ROM Disc #62 where ever that may be.

Gree is abbreviated in BDM it is short for Greendale or Greensborough in Vic

died 1977 Gree (Greendale or Greensborough) Vic reg no 6077 aged 89 yrs (parents unknown)
