Would like to know if there are any hospital records for my Gt.Grandfather William Ellis Williams born October 1837 Llandwrog, Caernarvonshire, North Wales, in either Ballarat or Maryborough, as I understood he met my Gt.Grandmother Elizabeth (maiden name also Williams) whilst having 'medical treatment. They married in 1865 in Carlton - I have obtained a copy of their marriage and copies of their childrens births.

I found an admission for William Ellis WILLIAMS. Admitted on the 20th of January 1865 at the Ballarat Hospital. His residence was Sebastopol, he was 27 years of age, was single and his occupation was a miner. He was born in Caernarvon. I cannot find any other admission for him. I could not find an Elizabeth WILLIAMS listed either... was she a nurse or something?

Kate, thanks for information. Yes, Elizabeth (Lizzie) could have been working in the hospital, though too young to have been a registered nurse.

No problem at all.. glad to be of assistance. Maybe she was visiting a parent or sibling in hospital also. Do you know her parents names? Do you also know when and how William arrived here in Australia. Was he here during the stockade? That would have been interesting!

Her parents were back in Wales, she travelled alone to live with her married sister Ellen Roberts. Cherilyn(on this board) has found, details of Ellen and husband Henry re births of their children. Births 1861 amd 1863 in Ballarat, and 1864/67 Sebastopol, 1869 Cobblers and 1871 Maryborough.
The family story is that Elizabeth met William Ellis Wms. when he was in hospital and she tended to him!
But it could be different - family stories are like chinese whispers!!!
Wm. and Elizabeth returned to Wales 1870/71, and in 1903 went back to Maryborough, to live with her sister Ellen, where he died in October - perhaps there are hospital records of his admittance?
I have a copy of his death cert.
