Hi Sharon,
After the 18 years in Bombala, the family moved to Sydney. I was born there, but now live in Auckland, NZ.
The ship the Seavers travelled out on was the Royal Family, arrived Melbourne, 26/4/1864. It sailed from Liverpool. They were from County Dublin, Ireland. I couldn't find the shipping records for ages until a researcher found them for me under Leaver. Another child, Catherine Connor, aged 10, travelled with them. The 2 daughters taught school. Patrick was a farmer and owned land, but lost it somehow and was declared insolvent the year before they immigrated. He was 52 when they arrived. I don't know if he worked in Australia. I imagine he must have if he had been insolvent in Ireland. Maybe the daughters supported them. As I said, I don't know what they did from the time they arrived until they lived in Horsham in 1869. From then on I can track them. I thought they may have spent some time in Warrnambool because of the photos of them done there. The photographer was "Thos J J Wyatt, Warrnambool, Portland & Mt. Gambier". I found him mentioned on a web site about old photographs and it said they were only in business in the 1860's, the period that the first type of studio photos were done.. I don't know if they had them done there because they were passing through the town, travelled from somewhere else to have them done, or actually lived there. I have foiund no other connection to them and Warrnambool. Henry Walters was known as Walters. He may have arrived in the country as Lawrence, but a relative I have made contact with in England says he wrote to his sister there to say he had been in some trouble and had to change his name. We think he was on the goldfields initially, but don't know where. First time he turns up is marrying the Seaver's daughter Teresa in Bombala in 1871. Only info on certificate about him is that he was a storekeeper in Bombala. Patrick's wife Teresa Snr.'s maiden name was Locke in Ireland, so maybe there were some of her relatives out here. And Patrick's mother's maiden name was Dollard, so maybe he had other relatives here too. So, All the names I am looking for are:
Seaver, Dollard, Locke, Walters, Lawrence, Pearson
Thanks again Sharon. I really appreciate your help. I have hit a brick wall with this research.
