Re: Looking for information about the family of George Morris from Beaufort, Vic.
Hi James,
Thanks for the images.
Do you have his death certificate?
Name: George Morris Father: Geo Birth: abt 1820 Death: 1886 - Beaufort, Victoria
Are there any children born prior to 1850, on that certificate (from his first marriage)?

Re: Looking for information about the family of George Morris from Beaufort, Vic.
Hi Mary, Funny you should mention his death certificate, I just purchased it this morning. But there is not much more useful info. 1. Same children as I had listed. 2. Married in Twofold Bay, NSW. 3. He was registered as a blacksmith 4. No additional marriage listed 5. Where born - County Nottingham, England 6. 30 years in Victoria 7. Name of Father, George Morris, (Carpenter) - Mother, Unknown. His wife (Cecilia Webster) came from a whaling family, based in Sydney, but her father died when she was about 5. Her mother remarried a year later, but I don't know what Cecilia would have been doing in Twofold bay when she got married at age 17. It's all a bit of a mystery. I know there were quite a few George Morris's listed as convicts, but once again it's a common name. Regards, James.

Hi James,
Re... "His wife (Cecilia Webster) came from a whaling family, based in Sydney, but her father died when she was about 5. Her mother remarried a year later, but I don't know what Cecilia would have been doing in Twofold bay when she got married at age 17. It's all a bit of a mystery. "
Google: twofold bay whaling
Twofold Bay (Eden), was the "whaling capital" of New South Wales! Maybe, her step-father was in the whaling game? Maybe, her mother resided there, with her second husband?
You said the death certificate has "30 years in Victoria". Is there any mention of time spent in NSW?

Re: Looking for information about the family of George Morris from Beaufort, Vic.
Hi Mary, Yes, I see that Eden was a whaling hub, so I did some old newspaper searches for info on Cecilia's mother and second husband (Thomas Shering), but have found nothing under Twofold bay. As you say, they must have followed the whaling teams down to Twofold bay. Nothing on George Morris death certificate about time in NSW, but he was obviously there for at least 4 or 5 years because that's where he and Cecilia's first son was born. But I shall keep digging, occasionally the odd piece of information comes along. James.
