Hi, I am looking for some information about my great great great grandmother, Mary Ann Godfrey's whereabouts. She was born around 1819 in Tasmania or London. It is possible that she might be moved to Buninyong or Ballarat with her children (one of them was Horatio Nelson Godfrey who was born in 1844 in Westbury, Tasmania) after her husband Henry Godfrey's death. He was a convict and was buried in Westbury in 1862. They married in 1843 at Westbury in Tasmania. She might be re-married after Henry's death?

Anyone knows about her? I would be great appreciated if you will reply.

Hi Steven,
Mary Ann Clarke and Henry Godfrey also had a female child (unnamed) born in 1850 in Launceston, Tasmania. Reg No: 2800, RGD 37.
I can find no trace of the birth of Horatio Nelson Godfrey in Tasmania. How did you find him and how do you know he is the son of Henry Godfrey and Mary Ann Clarke?
Mary Ann Clarke is possibly the child of Owen CLARKE and Jane BAKER, her birth being registered in 1839 at Green Ponds, Tasmania, but the event year of the birth is unknown. Registration Number: 736, RGD 32. Or she may possibly be the following convict:
Mary Ann CLARKE, Convict Number 13914
Departed London on the Hindostan on 9 May 1839, arriving in Tas on 12 Sep 1839.
Conduct Record: CON40/2
Description List: CON18/24
Indent: CON 15/9
Appropriation List: MM33/7

I can find no trace of Mary Ann Godfrey nee Clarke in Victoria that would reasonably fit your Mary Ann.
Let me know if you now have any more information, and I will see what I can find for you.

Cheers
Wendy

Hi Wendy,

Thank you for your time to help me about Mary Godfrey (nee Clarke).

I think that Mary did not have a middle name, Ann. I found her death that she died in London in 1855 aged 35 when her husband and thier five children moved to London from Tasmania in 1854. After her death, her husband and the children moved back to Tasmania in 1858. She was free to move to Tasmania before her marriage. I dont know when she moved in.

Yes, that's right that they had an unnamed child who born in 1850. It was thier last child. Her name was Eliza Emeline Godfrey who died in Ararat (Vic).

So Henry and Mary Godfrey has 5 children. They were Horatio, Henry, Frederick, Mary Louisa and Eliza.

I found Horatio Nelson Godfrey's baptism who was born in 1844 in Westbury, Tasmania. I have a copy of his baptism record. It showed names of his parents. Also I have a death certifiate that he died in Alberton (Vic).

I am still searching for Mary and Henry's birth dates and names of their parents. I believe they were born in London.

Cheers, Steven.
