Yates - Louisa (Baker) and John (possible connection to Robinson / Robertson)

Hi,
Looking for any information on Louisa (nee Baker) and John Yates from Bendigo. From what I can tell John died in 1868 - Bendigo Cemetery and Louisa in 1911 (buried together). I have a number of newspaper clips in my tree. What is confusing is the birth of three children - Isabella, William and Edward after his death (no birth certificates available). (All children are named on Louisa's probate records and death certificate). William and Edward's death certificates refer to Louisa Yates (formerly Robinson / Robertson) as the mother (and John Yates as the father) - but I can't find any links to her. I wonder if she remarried after John's death but retained her 'Yates' surname. I did find a Louisa Robertson who was licencee for Simpson's hotel for a year (1880), but no mention of a husband.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Judy

The three children have different parents from your family, ergo, not yours. It would have been prudent to check births before chasing death certificates.

William is my G-Grandfather. His marriage and death certificate state John Yates as his father and Louisa Robertson as his mother. There is no birth certificate, as is the case for most of the Bendigo families I am researching. Edward also claims John Yates as his father and Louisa Robinson as his mother. William's daughter Violet Louisa is buried with Louisa Yates (Baker) and John Yates (d1868). William is mentioned in Louisa Baker's probate and death certificate. His address matches known details. Edward was the administrator of Louisa's estate.

Despite what they believed or what they were told, John YATES could not have been the father of the three youngest children if he died in 1868. Louisa may have been their mother, but I would also be looking at them being the children of one or more of her oldest daughters.

Even if the births weren't registered it is highly likely that they were baptised, so the Bendigo church registers may help to sort them out.

The Bendigo Family History Group has been indexing church registers:

Hi Debra,
Thanks for your input. Yes, I agree John Yates couldn't have been the father, but I'm pretty sure that Louisa Baker was the mother - (now-days however ....!). Thanks for the link to Bendigo Family history. I'll have a good look around there and contact them. With a total of 10 children and no 'husband', I wouldn't be surprised if Louisa didn't even baptise the children. I even wondered about them being the children of a brother or sister of John or Louisa - but that doesn't seem to add up when you work down that path. (There are some children with similar names born in Mt Prospect / Ballarat to Yates families, but from what I can see they are all accounted for elsewhere.)
