My interest is in the family of ASHBURNER of Co. Lancaster, England. William Page ASHBURNER, born Bombay, India, 28 December 1791, son of William ASHBURNER and Elizabeth COTGRAVE, A Merchant of Bombay (Forbes & Co. - his step-father was Sir Charles FORBES) he married 1st Hester Maria, a dau. of George ELLIOT, of Blackheath, Co. Kent, England, and had twelve children (Hester Maria is buried at Longford Tas.). William Page was Mayor of Bombay in 1823 but settled in Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) for several years before leaving for England after Hester Maria's death. Several of the children were in the Indian Army, sons William, George Elliot, and John were Major-Generals but retired with the rank of Colonel. William settled in South Africa. William Page married 2nd, Anne, dau. of Daniel and Elizabeth BEALE, of Fitzroy Square, London. The only child from this marriage, Francis James ASHBURNER, married Katherine WEST(nee DARLEY, dau. of Benjamin DARLEY and Katherine WENTWORTH (youngest dau. of D'Arcy WENTWORTH and ANN LAWES - my GG grandparents) and had a son, Harley Wentworth ASHBURNER. Both Francis James (Indian Army) and Harley Wentworth (British Army - awarded DSO & Mentioned in Dispatches) were Lieut.- Colonels. Katherine DARLEY had married 1st Alexander Erskine WEST and had a dau. Constance Kate. William Page, Francis James, and Harley Wentworth all died in England.
Tasmanian descendants of William Page ASHBURNER include, LITTLER, LOVETT, OLDAKER, THOMAS, and SHAW.
I have extensive records of ASHBURNERS.
Is anyone interested in these families?

Ken,

Yes I am interested in your information. The Ashburners married into my family of Thomas's on the Northwest Coast of Tasmania.

The oldaker tree is very extensive. My ancest arrived on "Philip Oakden" and shipwrecked at mouth of Tamar River, Tas. They took up land at Devonport, Tas and were farmers.
Orig from Worcestor, Cleve Prior c 1710.
Any data base? Will share info.

Please send me information on the descendants of William Page Ashburner who are LOVETTs ... I have published the Lovett tree (as we know it) if you're interested in the Tasmanian Lovetts I know about (see Optional URL below).

Thanks

Ken,
Your posting that I am replying to is a fairly old post, so I don't know if you are still actively involved in genealogy, but I am interested in William Ashburner. The William Ashburner I am interested may be a son of William Page Ashburner. He served in the 2nd Bombay Cavalry in the Persia campaign and the Indian Mutiny of 1857 and retired as a Major General in 1875. If this is the same individual, I would be interested in any information you may have about him.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ken

I am a volunteer at this museum- http://www.maryboroughmuseum.org/
My job is to research some of the people whose medals are there and write a short story on them.
We have just received some medals and paperwork on a Clifford William Ernest Ashburner, who is a Great-Grandson of WIlliam Page Ashburner that you are talking about. He served in the Boer War (underage by the looks of things) and in WW1 and 2. He was apparently born in South Africa. I am wondering if you have anything on him, especially South Africa records?
Thanks for your time

regards

Robert Simpson

I am interested in Ashburners if you are still around. Today I viewed the gravestone of my 3xgreat grandmother Louisa Caroline Thomas at the BLUFF cemetery in Devonport. The headstone stated that she was the daughter of Hon. William Page Ashburner of Sillwood Carrick, Tasmania. Wife of B.W. Thomas of Appledore. Died 1898.
