Searching for anyone else researching the Hancock name in Tasmania. James and his wife Mary Ann (nee Samuels) arrived in Australia with 2 children from the U.K. or Ireland in the 1860's. ( Maria, married Thomas Newman in 1893, and Elizabeth, who married John Rock in 1890 in Launceston and died in 1938.). Four more children were born in Launceston, Tasmania. - James in 1776, (who married Sarah Dyson in Mersey, Tasmania in 1899), twins Sarah and Robert in 1881, and Mercy in 1883. Robert died in Launceston in 1882.. Mercy married John Williams in 1908 in Launceston. Her daughter Nancy was my husband's mother.)
We don't know when or where James and Mary Ann were married overseas, where they died, or where they immigrated from. We also don't know much at all about their lives in Tasmania, (apart from the fact that James worked as a furnace builder, and a foreman in a smelting works), or where else, if anywhere, they lived in Australia. Hope someone out there can help.
