Thank you Pam for contacting me.

I won't be on duty at the History Room down south until 22nd January, but will have a look and see if we have any information on Charles being involved in the construction, and get back to you. Was this information in his assignment record? Most interesting.

Kathy

Hi Kathy, Charles Watson is mentioned extensively in the book, From Dusk Till Dawn (a History of Australian Lighthouses) and I have several extracts from his trial together with petitions and references in his favour. He married Bridget Linnoir (the widow Barker) in Lancashire and his wife and children eventually joined him in Tasmania. A very interesting man. Pam

I am not as far as I know connected with the John Smoothy who was assigned to Bruny Island, my forebears being from Essex. However, I have recently been in touch with another Smoothy who is a descendant of the Bruny Island John Smoothy. I will alert him to your posts.
All the best
Pauline Smoothy

I have checked the light house folder at our History Room and can find no mention of Charles Watson. As with any subject/person it is a work in progress, and we would love any information on Charles and his connection to the island. Your name as source would be acknowledged. Amongst my files I did find the info below which you probably have, but will include just in case. Kathy {Bruny Is. Historical Society]
