Hi my name is Sharon and live in Bunbury WA, I am looking for ancestors from the Giles family. The last known Ancestor in my line is Thomas Giles born on 8th October 1846, Penzance Cornwell, England. He married Martha Williamson 17th Feb 1870 and died 24th Aug 1928, Minlaton, SA.

Isaac came to WA about 1905 i have found an Arthur Griffiths in WA he died 1905 in north Freo, im thinking he may of come to WA before his brother but it says he was born 1875, but i have 1873 but not uncommon to get years of birth wrong/diff...Dont have access to census records which could help

Iam researching family of Daniel Hanley married to Catherine Nolan (wife #20. They had 11 or 12 children. I have all their names and year of birth but no other details eg where and exact dates. There is no record of them in SA Marriage and birth Index of registration 1842 - 1906 which is very strange.
Arthur Aloysius Hanley b 1876 is our family entry point.

I couldn't find a death notice for Arthur Hill, Hills or Griffiths whose age matched this date of birth, nor could I find a marriage registration for him.

I did find this in the Biographical History of South Australians 1836-85 but no mention of Arthur. This could be an omission or it could be that the child didn't come to SA with his parents. It does appear though that Jane was possibly married before her marriage to Robert as her parents names are White, not Hills.

Hi looking for info on Arthur. Not sure if he died after birth as i cannot find death cert for him yet.

He was born in VIC in 1873 mother Jane Hills father unknown. Jane later got with Robert Henry Griffiths and moved to SA and had more children Jane had a son Isaac Hills but he was later named Isaac Griffiths, so Robert could of been father? Im hopeing Arthur if he didnt die after birth moved to SA with mother about 1877. Can anyone please help me find what happened to Arthur Robert Hills/Griffiths

I know I have photos of Regina Maria Henderson and her son Claude Henderson, who came over to Bendigo from Adelaide in the 1850's. I have other photos that I have not yet identified. I have a possible Henderson male taken in the 1880's or thereabouts. It was taken at the Fraser studio, Ballarat. I know Theophilus was married there and Francis taught and died there, so I'm wondering whether it is one of them. I am trying to find out when that particular studio was in business. It would help to know more about the movements of Francis and Theo to see if the dates corresponded, or even better, to see images of them.
Would you know anything of a Bessie Henderson who married the mayor of St. Kilda, by any chance? I have 3 photos of her as well.

Thank you all so much for your help, & yes, I would say their is some very bad writing in there, all records were only as good as the enumerater wrote down, I know it is my family by the name Flora Conngisty (which should be spelt Conningsby ) though I did not know about the death of the 1yr old, she would have been named after her Grand mother. I think Innis Hopps is probably my Amos Hoppo.

This might be something to check,,

In 1874 there is a death for an Innis HOPPS aged 75yo..

There was also a death for a 1yo Flora Connigsty HOPPS 1893 with father listed as Albert HOPPS. (There is an Albert HOPPO marrying in 1887)

Both at Adelaide..I notice most of the HOPPO deaths are also at Adelaide.

Maybe there was some bad writing or typing going on??

Hi,
The prblems with Australias early census and electoral rolls was so many people didn't qualify to be listed.

The SA census ONLY included the main people living in main areas. It only lists head of household, and the surrounding spread out areas of SA were NOT included.

Maybe check WA and VIC.
There was nothing organised in SA before 1836.
So even though there may have been people camping about there, there wasn't a 'state' as far as the government was concerned.

Maybe any registrations had to be done in VIC or WA depending on how close to which border..

Looks like Frederick William KELLY died. A funeral notice appeared in the advertiser 28 Dec 1904. Strangely there is no death record in the BDM index.

Laurence KELLY had a sister called Mary married to a George Day who placed memorial notices for the deaths for Laurence and Agnes who also died just weeks latter. Laurence was a member of the Adelaide Lodge of Foresters whatever that was.

There was no census in Australia in 1841.
The first births recorded of Hoppos in South Australia were Paul's children from 1863 onwards.
The first marriage recorded is for Paul.
The first death recorded is for Joseph Innis- Paul's son.

sorry to contradict the person that told you there was no census but there was a census in Sth Aust in 1841.
try www.jaunay.com/census.html I did put in hoppo as a

Hi sad_muchroom, can you please tell me where or how you get the information on adoptions in 1902 because I am wondering if Charles John Johnson was adopted because he is not on this list with his brothers and sisters. He was only 10 months old when his mother died. Plus I am wondering if any of the other children were adopted.

I am wondering if anyone would know anything about William Johnson ( Reg in S.A Birth as Wilhelm Ferinand Ludwig GANZEN) born 30 Aug 1858 his parents are Wilhelm Ferinand Ludwig Jansen ( Johnson) and Margaret Conway. William married Georgina GOWER (Nee Millington)and they had 7 children William who died as a baby, unrecorded male child, Rosie Morrice, James Millington, Elsie May, Adeline MAry, Charles John Johnson. They were all born in the Mt Crawford, Gawler and williamstown areas. Georgina Dead when Charles was 9 mths old and this is where we can not find any record of William, Rosie, James or Charles. Can anyone help me to find out what might have happened with then or were to go to find the information. Thank you

Hi I am trying to find what happened to Charles Johnson born on the 6 july 1872 in Adelaide S.A his parents are William Johnson ( Wilhelm Ferdinand Ludwig Jansen) born 1819 and past away 1887 his wife Margaret Conway was born in Ireland 1837 and past away 1919 they had Charles, Mary Jane that was born 4 dec 1856 and past away 11 dec 1856 at Blumberg. I can not find her grave. William he married Georgina Gower nee millington but there is no death record for him. Robert, John and my 2x great grandfather Thomas.They were born around Mount crawford, Blumburg, Williamstown, gawler areas.
