Hope this helps. A couple of the James Black's may not be yours, but it is possible he was a bit careless with wives and married a few times!! As you will see, the E. stands for Elizabeth.

Hi,

I am chasing the origins of Charlotte Jacques and am wondering if your Charlotte is our relative as well. Am a descendant of the Jacques in SA- who arrived in 1836and 1838- William Sarah Robert and Thomas. I have some Jacques records descendants of Robert an Ann Newman and also that Thomas married Sarah Horne in 1844. Sarah married 1839 and a Charlotte presumably the sister appears as witness on marriage certificate. Looks like Charlotte Jacques scribble then another word which could be Black.

Do you know anything about her and John, who is presumably her hubby? Was there more than one Charlotte Jacques in SA?
I have fair bit of info on the SA Jacques and many are the offspring of Robert and Ann, Did Charlotte come from Ireland or from England? We have the parents as Robert and Sarah nee Whitaker married in London in 1808. Perhaps she is a cousin as may be William with Robert, Thomas and Sarah brothers and sister?

Would appreciate any info! Our Charlotte has proven to be most elusive- have not found her on a shipping list!

As far as we know Charlotte and John were both Irish. THey emigrated from London but most of the ships left from London not Ireland. Their family arrived in 3 lots, 2 sons in 1855, 4 more in 1858 and the parents and 3 youngest shortly after in 1858. The childrens names in order were William, Henry, James, Jaques, Frederick, George, Thomas, Samuel, Charlotte Elizabeth and Joseph.

Not sure if this helps. It is the first time I have heard of other Jacques in South Australia so I would imagine there is some connection. I believe I also sent you a msg on curious fox. If not you let me know and I will relay the information I relayed to that person.
