Hi All Well I am going to go out on a limb here and throw my info out there with the hope someone may have some clues or info or something that might shed light onto my query. I am researching for a close friend. Her deceased husband was born 26 April 1937 Brian Angus Long. I am not sure where he was born but in Queensland as far as I am aware possibly in or near Rockhampton. He died on 2 July 1990 and is buried in Coffs Harbour Lawn Cemetery Karangi NSW where he lived. Brian was left at the St Joseph's Orphanage Rockhampton (Neerkol run by the Sisters of Mercy) as a baby by his mother Mary Long. We believe his father was someone with a surname Lovell. My friend, Brian's wife, has two children now adults to Brian and there are grandchildren and nothing more is known of his parents or grandparents or past ancestry. Brian did serve with the Australian Navy on HMAS Sydney sometime between 1950-1959. What my friend is trying to find out is more information on the Mary Long and Mr Lovell, Brian's parents. Obviously, my friend's children would like to find out more about Brian's ancestry so they know where they fit in to the big wide world of the past. If anyone thinks they may know Mary Long and Mr Lovell it would be greatly appreciated if you could reply with any information that could be of help. Cheers Pamela

Hi, Why don't you get her to apply for his birth cert and any orphanage records? That should atleast give you a mothers name and age, possibly fathers name and age. Check QLD BDM.

Hi this just a stab in the dark but interesting time for this Mary Long to visit Rockhampton. Like i said nothing definite, but maybe worth looking at.
The Central Queensland Herald (Rockhampton, Qld. : 1930 - 1956) (about) Previous issueThursday 4 March 1937 Mr J. W. Long and Miss Mary Long have arrived in Rockhampton from Wowan. They are staying at the Commercial Hotel.

Hi,
The 1937 & 1943 Electoral Rolls show a Walter James Lovell as a teacher at the Benevolent Home in Rockhampton. He appears to be the only Lovell in the district.
Cheers.

Hi Tania Thank you for that, I'll look into it. I'd forgotten about looking on Trove. I only spoke to my friend yesterday about all this and as I am in Ancestry and my own research I offered to help her. Thank you again. Cheers Pamela.

Hi Thank you for that info. I'll look into that too. Cheers Pamela

Hi Kellie Yes I had thought of that myself as well. My friend is quite the unimposing type of person so I'll have to teach her to be more imposing in order to get the facts she needs. Thank you. Cheers Pamela
