From the Charleville Times 12th November 1948 page 11.

H Marshall boot and shoe repairer placed a notice that he was re opening on Monday 15th November at Hamilton's Store in Alfred St.

Friday 18th September 1931 Jack Maoudis placed a notice on page 2 that he was opening a boot repairing business opposite the Commonwealth Bank!

Attached is a photo of a Boot-maker's shop on the corner of Parry & Wills Sts., Charleville during the 1934 flood.

James' quiet extensive obit in the Courier Mail 13 Oct 1928 pg 19(found on Trove) does not mention any connection with the Kenniff brothers- believe that would have been a aprt of his obit as there was other very important pieces in there

The 1913 Commonwealth Electoral Roll has Celia Sims as a Laundress at Charleville but the Qld State Electoral Rolls had more details and the 1915 State Electoral Roll has Celia Sims as a laundress at Hackett's Hotel in Charleville.

HUBERT MARSHALL:- I am looking for infor on my grandfather HUBERT MARSHALL worked as a peddler/shoe maker in the early days then for the council & alsao was green keeper at the bowls club & trined the young kids in boxing.

Kenniff's Tree is located at the corner of Jane and Cavanagh Streets, Augathella. There is nothing like a good old fashioned bushranger story, imagine what is like to live in a place that has a direct connection. This is the case for Augathella, it was at this magnificent Old Coolibah tree the notorious Kenniff brothers use to tether their horses when in the area. A full history on display at the tree.

Hi Lorraine,
My Great Grandmother, was born on 'Ellangowan' station, near the Nive. Her father was a Bullock Team carrier throughout the district. Apparently she has 2 siblings that died on that station or in the area.
I have a fairly good family tree on ancestry.com, but do not have these siblings names.
The local library staff in Augathella have emailed me lots of information, of which I need to spend some time there to decipher what's ours and what's not.
I would love to know the details of these children that you have the death certificate for.
My great grandmothers name was Maryanne Sheppard, she married James Alexander Leslie Scott, whom later on also had a bullock team carrying in that same area around the Nive.

In the column that says - 'When and where buried; Undertaker by whom certified' - it reads '12th August 1881. Malta, Nivelle. George Bredha...' It also gives the names of the witnesses, one of whom was a relative. So it doesn't actually name a cemetery.

Malta, Nivelle Cemetery

I have a death certificate for a young infant who died at Nive Saw Mill on 11 August 1881. She was then buried at Malta, Nivelle (or could be Nivella, writing difficult to read)on 12 August 1881. The death was registered in Charleville. To date, I can't find where the cemetery is located. Does anyone know where it could be?

1895 Electoral Roll for Warrego District, Tambo Division has an Abraham SHEPHERD 55yo, Langlo Downs- boundary rider. Son Abraham Thomas SHEPHERD is 21yo stationhand there also.

1900 Roll has son Abraham Thomas still there listed as a scalper.
(The rest of the rolls can be checked on Ancestry)

1875 has an Abraham SHEPHERD in Tambo district.

Someone should be able to check for their births having an idea of the year and fathers names.

James Whiteford, Newspaper stories

I'd never heard of the Kenniff Bros before last night. However, I've recently received scans of a number of newspaper clippings which reference my g grandfather James Whiteford and was browsing them. James was a policeman in Coen in far North Qld from the 1880s to 1911. One of the newspaper articles about him says he was in the party which captured the Kenniff Bros. I understand from googling, their capture was at Mitchell which is a distance from where James was stationed. The article and some of the googling I did indicated there were 15 trackers in the group which caught the Kenniff Bros.

James was a senior sergeant in charge of native mounted police in Coen and I suppose could have been brought down to help track them but it seems to an awfully long way from Coen to the Mitchell area. I would have thought there would have been local trackers. Why bring a group from Coen? It doesn't make any sense to me.

Does anybody know anything about the Kenniff Bros capture? The googling turns up information about their crimes and the trial and sentencing but nothing about their capture and who was involved.

Patrick & Margaret Kelly had a shop in Alfred Street Charleville Queensland "KELLY'S STORE" from around 1919 to 1943. No trace after that time. Patrick & Margaret Kelly had two children a boy & a girl they would be in their late 80s if still alive. So possibly might have children still living in the area. It would be great to get in touch.

Kelly's Store was situated at 107 Alfred Street Charleville. It was taken over by Overalls, then in the mid-1950's a new building was erected for Warrego Motors. This is not the Senior Citizen Centre. I have a nice sketch of Overall's if you'd like it. My direct email is kennedyg@ozemail.com.au

I don't know the Date of Margarets death. I just know she died between 1943 & 1946. The girls name was Betty, probably christened Elizabeth. I don't know the boys name. I know Patrick Andrew died in 1923.
