hello John,

My husband Peter is a direct descendant of Jane Hall and Charles Thomas Collyer and we are also wanting additional information about the Hall side of the family. in fact we are trying to gather as much information as we can about our ancestors on both sides. Peter's father gathered a lot of information about his family and we are in the process of trying to fill in the gaps. We do have information regarding Captain Richard Hall and his family. if you would like to make contact our email address is peterearlenecollyer@bigpond.com.au

Regards
Earlene

Thanks Kellie, I have a good deal of information on the marriages etc just needed to know if by chance there were any males living with her in 1921/22.I know it is a long shot but my father was born in 1922 and no father was listed on his birth certificate.James Jackson died before he was born. There are some aunties and uncles still living from the 1928 marriage so I don't want to go near there.
As I said it is a long shot but you never know something may come of it and thats it for me then, I've worked the rest of the tree out.I think also the address on the birth certificate of Black Street South may have been the location of the hospital.
Hi,
I hold and interest in the Historical Queensland Hall Family and a particular Historical Queensland Hall Family Person, by the name of :

Jane Hall

Who married a Gent by the name of Charles Thomas Collyer, in 1883, Just as an aside, it's interesting to note they actually did name a Male Sibling after Dad aka Charles Thomas Collyer. So realise there are 2 of them floating around if you are doing the Complete Collier Tree. I have no interests in doing so Myself.

On to Jane Hall ....

I'm interested in Jane Hall's prior Ancestors, it does seem that in the earliest years of the 1900's the couple were living in Charters Towers and could have moved around quite some amount, prior and post 1903. As Charles Thomas was working for Queensland Rail.

If you are a Hall Blood Family Member I would love to hear from You, or if You have a Research Interest in the Hall Family of which My Jane Hall is a known Member to you, or have old Documents or Information about Jane's earlier Hall Ancestors feel free to post a Reply. Many Thanks.

regards
john

You could contact Charters Towers & Dalrymple Faily History Assoc. Inc at P.O.Box 783 Charters Towers 4820 - they have lots of local info. I am not sure if the Phillips are the same family as yours bugt they may be able to tell you.

Hi,
I am currently reseasrching the Phillips family from Sellheim. My 2nd Gret Granparents Frank And Ann Phillips could have possibly owned the Day Dawn Hotel in sellheim either before 1900 or possibly after this time, when it is likely that my Great Grandparent William And Theresa(Flatrey) Phillips took over it from 1900-1903. Abt 1904 William And Theresa owned the W. Phillips Post Office Hotel in Cloncurry Qld,until around 1910.They had 7 chidren, Frank,Cecilia,Leonard, Aidan(my Grandfather),Kevin,Patricia and Carmen. If anybody knows anything off this family especially Frank Phillips parents, who have a welsh background could you please contact me. Thank you.
Serina.

I believe he worked on a station (cattle prehaps) and that his family may have owned the station.
Anne

Thank you so much, this really is very kind of you. Yes this is definitely them on the 1901 (I didn't have this info) and yes they were a travelling family, fairgrounds and the like.
I did have her marriage to John Bower, I think Susannah may have been his daughter but haven't found it yet on Scotsland People, nor Free BMD - perhaps her birth wasn't registered and Henry Bowie just adopted her on his marriage to Evelyn in 1910 and her passport application for the voyage to Australia was made in the name of Bowie.
I have been very devious, different time frames, different surnames, using up credits to look for Susannah but haven't come across her as yet.
I did notice that there are two Public Trees showing the same family, my sub to Ancestry has lapsed but I will speak to my friend and maybe she can help towards re-subbing !
Kind regards and again so many thanks for your help.
Pauline

I don't have any credits left at the moment, but I tried a search for 'Susannah' (no surname) born between 1904 and 1907 at (County) Fife and it is showing 5 matches (1 page).

Hopefully one of those might have a mother Evelyn. Then again, Susannah could have been born in another county ...

There is also one match for an Evelyn Clark (no 'E') married between 1901-1909 at Fife to a 'Bower' ??

You may have this information already, but Evelyn's occupation on her marriage certificate sounded interesting.

Is this her family at Dumfernline on the 1901 census, with father Joseph a travelling showman?

Name: Joseph Clark
Age: 40
Estimated birth year: abt 1861
Relationship: Head
Spouse's name : Susannah Clark
Gender: Male
Where born: England
Registration Number: 424
Registration district: Dunfermline
Civil Parish: Dunfermline
Town: Dunfermline
County: Fife
Address: Market Street Caravan
Occupation: Travelling Showman
ED: 5
Household schedule number: 154
Line: 8
Roll: CSSCT1901_134

Household Members: Name Age

Joseph Clark 40
Susannah Clark 40
Lillie Clark 17
Annie Clark 16
Evelyn Clark 12
William G Clark 2
John C Brian 16

All the best, Anne

Anne
Thank you again so very much, having the ages makes all the difference in finding Susannah's birth.
Yes I have been using Scotsland People - at this stage to no avail despite purchasing loads of credits. Will have to be a bit more diligent I think before I use up too many credits today.
Yes I have Evelyn and Henry's marriage cert. they were married 22nd January 1910 in Edinburgh, the cert shows him to be a bachelor age 29 and she a Show Woman (no marital status, ie widow) age 21. Euphemia was born the same year (1st May) Euphemia Thomson Bowie (Thomson being Evelyn's mother's maiden name).
The strange thing is that there are two marriage certs. shown, both with the same number one for Evelyn Clarke and the other Evelyn Bower, all the other details the same. I assume from this that she 'might' have been married before to a Bowen (or Bower) but I can't find this.
Will keep digging and again so many thanks.
Kind regards, Pauline

Hi again Pauline,

As the four children were born post-1939, they can all be presumed 'living'...

They are too young to appear on the Electoral Rolls here on Ancestry (presuming they left SA, as did their father), which only go up to 1954.

Kellie has had a look at the SA records and nothing showing there . . .

Not much time this morning, but I had a quick look at the historic newspapers, couldn't come up with anything. If you're patient you could search through the many records for Bowie. Use 'Advanced Search' and a relevant time frame/State.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper

On your post on the 'Bowie' board you mention that Joseph's father Henry was a butcher from Fife.

Could this be Henry and family (father David also a butcher) on the 1901 Scotland census?

Name: Henry Bowie
Age: 21
Estimated birth year: abt 1880
Relationship: Son
Father's name: David Bowie
Mother's name: Euphemia Bowie
Gender: Male
Where born: Dunfermline, Fifeshire
Registration Number: 424
Registration district: Dunfermline
Civil Parish: Dunfermline
Town: Dunfermline
County: Fife
Address: 81 Nethertown Broad St
Occupation: Butcher
ED: 16
Household schedule number: 198
Line: 7
Roll: CSSCT1901_135
Household Members: Name Age
David Bowie 72
Euphemia Bowie 60
Henry Bowie 21
Mary Bowie 21
Annie Bowie

And a possibility for Henry's death in New South Wales, 1941?

10115/1941 BOWIE HENRY
Father: DAVID
Mother: EUPHEMIA
District: GILGANDRA

I googled Mount Molloy Cemetery but the Bowie name was not coming up on any gravestone data.

Hopefully one of the children, or their descendants, will respond to your message board threads.

Happy hunting, Anne
Anne
How can I thank you - this is definitely them. Wonderful !
This proves that Joseph must have been born after their arrival in Australia in 1911. Some time after his birth his Mother, Joseph and his two sisters returned to England (when I don't know) but sometime between his birth and 1929 when son Joseph returned to Australia under the Salvation Army Migration Scheme to be reunited with his Father Henry (possibly Henry Joseph).
Evelyn and sister never returned to Australia but Joseph stayed, married a Jean A Crawford in 1939 and had four children Evelyn, Gordon, Joseph and David (dates unknown) he died 1974 in Australia.
I'm so grateful for your assistance and wonder where I should go now ?
Kind regards, Pauline

Thank you Kelly.
Where did you find the birth of a Joseph Henry Bowie born 1912 please ?
Anne (another poster) has now established that his parents Henry and Evelyn and two sisters arrived in Australia 1911, Joseph must have been born in Australia after this date.
The arrival of Joseph in Adelaide 1929 is correct as we have documentation from the Salvation Army to this effect.
Sometime following the birth of Joseph in Australia his Mother decided to return to England with the family (Euphemia died on the journey), her husband Henry stayed behind. But in 1929 Joseph returned to Australia to join his father and stayed there, marrying and having four children and dying there.
Kind regards and thanks for any help.
Pauline
Thank you 'warncoort1'.
I have taken a look at the Indexes but I need to find births after 1911.
A kind reply from Anne gives the details of ther arrival in Australia as 1911 so Joseph must have been born after then.
Thanks for your help and by the way where could I find Australian Public Trees ?
Kind regards, Pauline

Hiya,
Your post is a bit hard to make sense of.
When/where was Joseph Henry born?
Where/when did he marry?
Where were his children born?

The ONLY Joseph Henry BOWIE on QLD Electoral Rolls is living with/married to a Jane McAllister BOWIE.

I cannot find anything that fits your details, althoug I am having trouble working out who went where and when.

Kellie
