Yes Belgrade Ninnis was in charge of the dog sled and supplies in Antarctica. A distant relative of mine so we have to be related. My mother was the last of the Ninnis names as my grandparents only had daughters. This is all quite interesting :-)

I beleive Trudy is my aunt or great grandma and moved to Australia.
She may live in Bundamba, Queensland and I could possibly have relatives there which would be great to connect with.
My grandad is Alan Hugh Wharton, married Alice Collins and my mum is Caroline Christine Wharton.
Regards
Stacey

I just happen to do the family history for everyone.
I'd prefer to communicate by e-mail as I rarely check messages on ancestry and I think it is almost expired now.
Cheers
Bob

Thank you very much for that. I believe Arthur was my great grandfather and would like to obtain as much info on Annie as possible and would also like to get some info on a Arthur Evan Williams who is on Deboras birth certificate as her father and who is most probably Arthurs father as well but not on his certificate. He was an engine driver from Wales and approximately 29 years of age when Debora was born but has disappeared from all records.
Once again thank you.

She became Bernasconi in the early 1900's and moved to Brisbane, passed away in 1940 and is buried in the Nudgee cemetary. Children included Gladys, Louis Sydney, John, Arthur, Herbert and Debora. Any information on her and also a Arthur Evan Williams who was also in the Towers area in the late 1800's would be greatly appreciated.

hi j ohn, sorry for the delay getting back to you ,we have had a lot on. anyway getting back to the ninnis family, my grandmothers sister who is still alive in her eighties has told us a bit about them, but some of her information is not quite right as she said on arrival in melbourne they then left for ravenswood by coach via adelong where one of their children were born but i have found there was other children bor there a few years later, i have heard that some of the ninnis tribe stayed in melbourne while the others left to go to adelong and then ravenswood, ihave afew death certificates which also shows them at the blue mountains, one interesting thing she told me that we had a relative who died in antarctica , i have an old piece of paper with family addresses of many of themon it which also mentions afamily member who died at antarctica but i dont know if this is true,i can send you the certificates if you like and would love to talk to you more . I was also on a family history site on the net and came across aninnis family site which i am sure was our family and it had already gone back to the 16.00 s. but as i am not very good with computers i did not save the site and have not been able to find again, anyway it would be great to hear from you,

Townsville 1892-1910 Ogrady

Can anyone help me. I am looking for John O'Grady and/or Lucy - either a blacksmith or someone who ran a boarding house in Ravenswood (or Townsville perhaps?). My great grandmother Bessie O'Grady lists her birthplace as ravenswood in 1892 (on her death certificate - and townsville on her marriage certificate).

She listed him as a blacksmith in 1910 when she married and there is a thought that she met her husband Major Faulkner in her parents boarding house too. We think she had a sister Molly M. Spence from Paddington NSW and Jack O'Grady too.

Any help would be appreciated. She totally disappears.
Hi,
There is a John William Faulkner born to Major & Bessie Faulkner in Qld in 1910.
The below is a death notice in Tasmania newspaper the Examiner 24th Sep 1938 for Bessie Faulkner -
FAULKNER-On the 23rd September,
at Burnie, Bessie, dearly beloved
wife of Major Faulkner, of Waratah,
aged 46 years.
There is another death notice in Examiner dated 27 Sept 1938 with more detail
DEATH OF MRS. FAULKNER.-
regret was expressed at Waratah when
it became known that Mrs. Faulkner,
wife of Major Faulkner, of Waratah,
had died at the Darwin Hospital Burnie,
on Friday. Although Mrs. Faulkner was
of a quiet and reitring nature,
and was not prominently associated
with outside affairs, she was held in
high esteem throughout the Waratah
district, where she has resided for
over 25 years. Deceased leaves a hus
band and family of seven - Messrs
John (Hobart), Leslie (Kindred), Eric
(Rosebery), and Misses Mary, Betty,
Lucy, and Joyce (Waratah)

Interestingly there is also a notice of Bessie's death in the Cairns Post on 21st Oct 1938 so she must have had family still in Cairns

hope this helps

Looking for information on Thomas Ryan, who moved from Victoria around 1864 to Rockhampton with his wife, Ann McNaughton. They had three children, Julia, Julia Ann and Mary Ann. Lost track of Thomas after Mary Ann was born around 1871. Ann moved backed to Victoria around 1880 and remarried so presume that Thomas died in Qld. Any information would be helpful

Sue

Hiyas,
Gloria,,,I guess the name Suzie might have been remembered as Lucy.
I also can believe that John may have needed a woman around to help raise the children. (maybe her name was Lucy?)

Whatever happened it certainly appears that the mother was Susan. Susan died 15/06/1900 father Owen McPARTLAND mother Susan McCANN.

Kellie

Nope, don't do it for a living. It's in the blood....mostly Aussie/part English/part Scot/dash of South African Dutch and American and a trace of 'ferret'. :) I also like to see a few of those genealogical 'brick walls' demolished where possible.....takes my mind of fretting about my own.

So, does this mean that, rather than Bessie O'Grady's mother being named Lucy, it looks like it was Susan (maybe known as Suzie ?). Both names have a phonetic similarity so, especially if the children were only young when she died, or whoever reported Bessie's was confused, they may have become tangled. Or maybe it just got confused in the actual recording of the death ....on my great grandfather's death record his mother is shown as Ann but Ann was his WIFE ...his mother was Elizabeth.

Gloria

Hi Carolyn

They both come up on the NSW BDM's that are online...they cover deaths up to 1981 and in the Ryerson Index.

If you have any problem locating them, email me on dulciesgirl@hotmail.com and I'll send you the direct links later today when we get home. With the Ryerson Index, only the bare details are given but you can request a look-up of the actual notice. It's a great web site.

I had been thinking that, since Melville passed away in 1955, Mary Margaret Spence may have re-married and her death notice may also appear but under another surname. However the online marriages for NSW only go up to 1961 and she hadn't remarried up to that time.

Gloria

OK - I just checked Wiliam Topping's war service record and, when he enlisted in March 1916, he originally gave a next of kin, details of which are hard to read, but that was crossed out and "Mrs Mary Margaret Topping, Gordonvale" written over it in pencil. So it seems that, by 1916, he and Mary may have had some sort of reconciliation and she was living at Gordonvale which is a town just south of Cairns (actually almost close to it now as development has spread out). It seems William was granted a pension in 1918, with his address as Gordonvale so it does look like he and Mary reconciled.

The file also contains a letter from Townsville Legacy, Lower Burdekin and Home Hill Group (this is south of Townsville) dated March 1962 regarding an application by his widow (he died 12th March 1962) for his details. There is also a handwritten letter dfrom William himself in 1960 giving the address as Cox Street, Ayr so it looks like Mary was living in the Burdekin district (Ayr/Home Hill) in 1962.

However I can't find either of them buried in th Burdekin or Cairns cemeteries so maybe they were interred in Townsville.

Gloria

From what I can also gather from the NLA, William Topping went to Townsville at some time as there was a short report in the paper that the Defence Dept had written to the RSL, which advised the sub branch in Townsille, saying they had no record of William Topping ever serving in the military police while on active service. The report says:

The State Secretary of the R.S.S.I.L.A. (Mr. J. H. Halliday) has advsied the Townsvllle sub-branch concerning William Topping, 2263, 47th Battalion, that as a result of Inquiries made at the Defence Department he was assured that there was no record whatever of Topping ever having served at the war as a military policeman.

Gloria
