Is anyone able to tell me what used to be at 106 Flinders St Townsville between 1935 and 1950, electoral rolls show some of my relos lived there. It looks like it is a car park now between the museum and bullys nightclub.
Regards
Chris

Hi Chris,

Beak House was at 106 Flinders St. If you check out the Townsville Daily Bulletin on TROVE, a few things come up.

I can remember in the 1960s, there was an Insurance Co. on the ground floor, and flats upstairs.

What were your relative's names.

Cheers,

Alan Mac.

Hi Chris,

I may have led you astray. I've misread the article in TROVE, and have the wrong number in Flinders St. Beak House is on the corner of Flinders St & Stokes St, and was rebuilt by the Beak Pastoral Co. in 1929 after a fire in the original building.

106 Flinders St. is on the Cnr. of Flinders St. & Wickham St. You can find more about it by going to this site;- https://heritage-register.ehp.qld.gov.au/placeDetail.html?si...

Cheers.

Yes I'd had a look and found that, also do you know where Hayles landing was? was it near this location in Flinders St.

Hi Chris,

Hayle's wharf was originally across Ross Ck. from Wickham St. on the South side near Tomlins St.
I believe they relocated in about the 1930/1940s to a site next door to Burns Philip (now Bullwinkles nightclub). They relocated when Burns Philip closed their wharf. It would have been at about 150 Flinders St. There is a car park there now.

Cheers.

Thanks for that the reason I asked was I found in trove references to 106 flinders st being opposite Hayley's landing this makes me think flinders st was renumbered at some stage, any idea if it was.

Chris

Hi Chris,

I think the numbers are still as they were back in the early to mid 1900s.

Cheers.
