Hi Tania,
yes it is. He married Catherine (Kathleen) in 1918, John Joseph was born in 1919, only survived a month and dad, John William was born in 1926. Catherine died in 1934, Joseph was invalided by this time and died in 1937. Dad was in boarding school from the age of 7 until he finished high school. He never knew of any relations on his fathers side, only being told his farther was born in South Africa and emigrated to Australia by an Aunt (Hickey).
He always thought he emigrated as an adult. What wasn't known was he emigrated from South Africa with his entire family in 1884 aged 4. Joseph first married Isabella Alice Thompson in 1905, they formally divorced in 1911. I have the suspicion that some time between 1905 an 1912 when he appears in Farleigh (just outside Mackay) Queensland he returned to South Africa, probably Kimberly mining. This is where he's lung injuries where sustained that eventuraly killed him, these are also mentioned in medical reports in his military file. His brother Thomas fought in the Bore war as a member of the Victorian Bushmen. After the defeat of the Bores there was opportunities for "British" types in South Africa. This is the next part of the puzzle.
Its on his WW1 enlistment papers that Ivy Muriel (incorrectly recorded as Joy Muriel) appears and a whole other side opens up. There were three children, on the QLD online records no farther is shown. They seem to use the name Treloar until some time in the 20's when they adopt the name of Holman. More work to do here as well. On one of the childrens (Harry) death certificate it states Joseph James as the farther
Thanks
Peter.
