Ryans in Rockhampton

Looking for information on Thomas Ryan who was a bullock driver and moved to Rockhampton in 1862 with his wife Ann and their children, James, John, Timothy and Margaret Ellen. Thomas seems to have died around 1873 but cannot find any death entry and have also lost track of John who was alive in 1871 but cannot find anything after that. Any information would be appreciated.

Hi Suzanne, I was just doing a bit of a search on family and came across your questions. As it happens my mothers fathers name is John Joseph Ryan last known address was in Burke NSW where he is buried. Not sure if it is the same one you are looking for. Also looking at a couple of your threads the names that keep popping up are very common in my family, such as Ann, James, Cyril, Edward. We have a lot of Roberts also. My mum doesn't know a lot about her family history as she was estranged from a lot of her family. She is now the only one left in her immediate family. My mum has a feeling that her family came from Qld and that her dad may have met her mother in Bundaburg Qld. My mothers siblings names are Bruce Ryan, Raymond Ryan, Edward Ryan, Betty Ryan, Shirley Ryan -(my mum). Not sure if any of this is useful to you but I am just starting out with my searches and have very limited information at this stage.

Regards Tracey

Thanks for the reply. Yes the Ryan name is difficult to research because it is so common. However I have a database with about 8000 Ryan names on it so if I can be of any help just contact me. I have three untraced Ryan leads in Queensland so it is possible that we may just connect somewhere. There are at least another two untraced but very questionable leads in Qld as well.

You can contact me direct on sue@glendalong.com.au

Hi Suzanne..

Have a look on TROVE online newspapers... as there where a few articles about Thomas.. With the online papers you have a better chance of following yours or any other family and get dates of death etc.
Use the snipping tool to cut articles (if you have a tree in ancestry) and save them.

Let me know how you go... Good luck
