Hi I would like a Qld lookup for Conaghan/Conachan from Ireland to Rockhampton/Gracemere came to Australia aboard the cutter TURAKINA/Elida/City of Perth(Known as 3 different names), the boat was hired by the Archers, the founding family of Rockhampton. I would say that was around 1850-60s and more Conaghan/Conachan's came to Qld from Ireland in the later 1800s. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Sorry it is a little vague I have just started my search and I have only limited info so far.

Great, I have all of them on my list thanks heaps. I also wanted to ask you, if you know, my people and ship are not listed in the immigration section that you told me, is there anywhere else I may be able to look? They supposedly came to Qld, where would a hired ship have docked?
Thanks, Michelle

Michelle, Do you need the details of the marriages and children for the people whose names I gave you?

If they are not listed on the assisted queensland immigration indexes then they may have come as Unassisted Passengers (paid their own way)
They could have arrived in any state and then made their way to queensland
The n.s.w. immigration indexes are online
http://www.records.nsw.gov.au under immigration

If you need details off the bdm index please let me know

Hi Michelle, my name is Richard Conaghan from Scotland. I saw in one of your earlier posts the names of William Conaghan and Janet Dorian. My Gt. Gt. Grandfathers older brother was Father Joseph Conaghan and he was a Catholic Priest in the 1860s in Girvan Ayrshire Scotland. He performed the wedding of William Conaghan and Janet Dorian in 1863. We have a copy of the marriage certificate. We have yet to establish a connection between the two famillies, but we think that there is one. It just so happens that Father Joseph was listed as working in Govan Glasgow in 1863 and to travel 50 miles back then would have been quite a feat, hence we think that there is a family connection. If this is of any interest to you then please get back in touch.
Cheers Richard.
