The church record should name the parents of both bride and groom. Civil registration commenced in March 1856 and from that date the churches used pre-printed registers which had columns for parents' names, places of birth etc. They just didn't pass on that information to the registry.
Was it Church of England? If so, I would initially contact the Newcastle University library as they have an extensive collection of Newcastle church registers (120 shelf metres!), or you might have access yourself to the microfilm at the libraries listed here
