This message is for 'Scallywaggles'. My Great Grandparents were John Paul Mackenna and Mary Harris, who married JAMES Parker after John's death.
I would love to hear from you and about your connection.

Warm Regards,
Maree Langburne nee McKenna

Hi Maree,

I don't really know if we have any connection. My great grandmother Catherine Harris had one sister we knew of, Margaret. But now it appears she may have had another sister, Mary Ann. This information is from Sydney Benevolent Asylum records. Catherine never mentioned anything about another sister, so we need to investigate further.
Mary Ann was apprenticed to a Mr P. Mackel of Wollongong in 1873 aged 13 yrs. Phillip Mackel was appointed postmaster of Wollongong in 1870 and there are numerous references to him if you google his name.
Catherine and Margaret were also apprenticed. Catherine to Dandaloo, near Narromine and Margaret to Cooranbong. Their parents were John Harris and Mary Ann Cotton. John was Maori and Mary Ann was Irish.
Hope this helps you. I have found that getting information from family can help when looking through records. Records are only as good as the record keeper.

Cheers, Scallywag
