Leisa,
It is very possible that we could both be talking about the same Ralph Higgins and he and his wife had children after the year of 1914 or your grandfather could be a nephew of my Ralph Higgins, if I find any more information about my Ralph Higgins, I will let you know. HOw I found the name of Ralph Higgins was this summer when I started my search for my long lost Australian cousins, I was looking over some old papers of my paternal grandmother and found a letter that was written by the minister of the Mowbray Presbyterian Church which was/is situated at the corner of Geelong Street and Mowbray Terrace in East Brisbane, Queensland, Australia as this letter informed my grandmother of the death of her cousin, Amelia Neuve Parker, who was the wife of Thomas Fanning, and she was called Millie, and during the late 1950's and early 1960's Millie had visited us here at our home near New Iberia, La. My grandmother's father and Millie's mother were brother and sister that is how we are related. And in the contents of the letter, the Presbyterian minister informed my grandmother that Millie's brother in law, Ralph Higgins, was to send my grandmother a wire. Mille died on November 24, 1964 and Ralph Higgins was alive at that time. Hope this information helps you make a connection.
Since both Higgins families lived in the Brisbane area, I would take an educated guess and say that it is very possible that they are related.
I will keep researching and will share my research with you.
