Thanks for your reply. Frederick was my G.Grandfather, born in Braintree Essex abt. 1825. He was the son of John and Phoebe Carter. Siblings were Caroline Maria, Thomas Davey, Charles and Phoebe. He married Sarah Stanton in Leverington, Cambridgeshire 15th. December 1848. In the fall of 1858 he sailed for Australia and the goldfields of Victoria. According to a letter, he sailed on the Royal Charter and arrived Melbourne Dec. 25th, 1858. Apart from one other letter to his wife, he was never heard from again.
