Hi Cynthja,

Re.... "Robert Bye arrived in Australia on the Hersperus in 1883. He was listed as a single man, ag. labourer. "

I cannot see a ship named "Hersperus".

Ohhh, OK, a further look, has the ship spelt "Hesperus", arriving 1883, in South Australia.

ADDED:

Emily Garbet, also arrived 1883 on the "Hesperus". Their first child was born in 1884, in Adelaide, South Australia.

1884 BYE Gertrude Emily Robert BYE Emily GARBETT Adelaide 342/272

Emily Garbet is listed on Page 7, of the above article, as is Robt BYE.

Hi Jane Inskipp,

These two births registered in NSW, in 1888, and 1890.

36944/1888 BYE ALBERT J ROBERT EMILY WENTWORTH

37420/1890 BYE ERNEST M ROBERT EMILY WENTWORTH

If you purchased, either one of those certificates, it should give the age of Robert BYE, and his birthplace. That way, you could rule this family in, or rule them out, as being your Robert BYE.

Hi Jane Inskipp,

The 1871, Brize Norton, Oxfordshire, UK Census.

http://interactive.ancestry.com.au/7619/OXFRG10_1450_1453-03...

It shows Robert BYE, as 10 years old. His parents are Robert BYE, and Joice /Loice BYE. She may have had maiden name of TEA.

I can see family trees have his mother as Joyce TEA.

Yes I have this information in our family tree. This is the Robert Bye I'm resourcing. I lost track of him after the 1880 census. The family story says he went to Australia but we thought he sailed to Sidney or Melbourne. He wrote to his mother once after he arrived but was never heard of again..

Hi Jane,

Are you 100% sure it is him?

The birth certificate of one of his children, would give you more details about Robert's birthplace and age.

The death certificate shows his mother as "Unknown" and his father as "Unknown".
So I think the death certificate would not be of much value.

I notice one of the daughters of Robert & Emily had the 2nd given name Joyce.

Coincidence???

The 1936 burial of Robert BYE is listed here: http://www.bencemtrust.com.au/deceased-search/

I think as others here have suggested you might be best to order one of the birth certificates of Robert & Emily's children. Australian certificates are very detailed.

You can download a pdf image of a certificate at quite a reasonable cost at https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/index-search?action=pu...

Only once you have done so will you know for sure if this is the right Robert to follow.

Robert Bye was born in Brize Nirton Oxfordshire in 1861 so this is right for the date of his death certificate so I'm quite confident we have the right family. If anyone wants the family tree which goes back to the 1730 please let me know and I will email you a copy.

Hi Jane,

Jane, you need proof, (not, confidence) before you can add him into your tree. Just because the age matches, does not necessarily mean, he is your man.

You need to purchase, at least one Australian Certificate, to see if this man, was born in Brize Norton Oxfordshire.
