WOW,

Well done, Kellie and Hansen, on spending your own money, to purchase those certificates, to verify, all the details.

Jinskipp, you do not have to purchase the marriage certificate, if you have access to English records on Ancestry. The hand-written marriage certificate, for GARBETT and BYE, in June 1883, can be viewed here, on Ancestry. (See my earlier post).

Regarding the death certificate of Robert BYE, kindly purchased by Kellie.
In the first column, you will see: UR, Swan Hill.
That is, Usual Residence, Swan Hill.

That matches perfectly, with what Kellie and Hansen found for Robert BYE on electoral rolls.......

"Australian Electoral Roll
1931
NSW Darling/Moulamein
BYE Robert Murray Downs Labourer

This would be Murray Downs Station NSW near Swan Hill Vic."

So now jinskip, you can be 100% sure that this is your Robert BYE. Proof is the only way to accurately record your family tree.

Well done, everybody.

Mary

Arthur Walter MUNN was born Arthur Walter BYE - according to his birth certificate his father was ROBERT. This is different to his death certificate so either Emily and Robert had split up after his birth or perhaps he was taken from the family and placed in the care of Wally Munn? There is record in the Mildura newspaper of 1914 of an Emily Bye being fined for not taking her child to school.

The Robert Bye in WA was the Queenslander Robert Bye who arrived in Australia in 1866.

Sorry but that is incorrect.
Arthur Walter MUNN was registered a Arthur Walter BYE and Arthur Walter GARBETT mother Emily GARBUTT and NO FATHER stated.

Name: Arth Walt Garbett
Father's Name: Garbett
Mother's Name: Emily Garbett
Birth Place: Mildura, Victoria
Registration Year: 1901
Registration Place: Victoria
Registration Number: 13019R

Name: Arth Walt Bye
Mother: Emily Garsett
Birth: 1901 - Mildura, Victoria
Registration Number: 13019R

Arthur Walter lived with Emily and in later life Emily lived with Arthur Walter and his wife. They moved from VIC and travelled around NSW (together) until Emily's death in 1955.
Arthur was always listed as Arthur Walter MUNN and if you check the electoral rolls it appears they lived with (or atleast in the same street) as Walter MUNN, his father.

It appears from newspaper notices that Robert BYE was in Western Australia as early as 1896.
