Hi Jean,

I am trying to find the connection of James and Ellen/Nellie CONSTABLE, to Lettice. Nellie is supposed to be the Aunt, of Lettice.

Here is Nellie CONSTABLE's death notice, (Aug 1916), and Memoriam Notices (Aug 1917 & 1918).

Hello

Harriet's name on William's marriage certificate is shown as Harriet Bradshaw.

I have the death certificate for Harriet Bradshaw from 1884 and her name is shown as Harriet Bradshaw married to Joseph Holmes.

Could Harriet have been married before to a ? Bradshaw? Also, I wondered if George Smith is her brother-in-law.

If Harriet had married before in England perhaps William was a Bradshaw and not a Holmes. I have wondered about this because it seems odd that on his death certificate his mother's name is given but not his father's.

Again, thank you.

Jean

Hello

I had found Lettice on Ancestry and contacted Kerry to see if there was any connection but I have not heard back from her. I will try again as when I used your link it showed that she has a marriage date of 13 May 1880 in Newcastle for Joseph and Harriet.

All certificates about William indicate that he was born in England. His death certificate indicates that he was born in Oldham, England.

Cheers

Jean

Hi Jean,

Re... "Could Harriet have been married before to a ? Bradshaw? Also, I wondered if George Smith is her brother-in-law. "

Yeah, I am not sure, how this SMITH family cone to be so closely related, in Newcastle NSW.

Harriet BRADSHAW, seems to be the mother of William HOLMES, as per the documents that you have. I would assume that BRADSHAW, is her maiden name.

I wonder, if Joseph HOLMES, married (or was a defacto husband) to Harriet, after Harriet, had a couple of children?

Hi Jean,

Back to the funeral notice in October 1884 for Harriet HOLMES.

Samuel HOLMES was the father of Joseph HOLMES.

Here is a story, with both men, mentioned in September 1882 in Newcastle.

Hi Debra,

Thanks for the link.

I can see that I wasted a day, searching for information that was provided to Jean, two weeks ago.

I can see that the "possible" birth registration for William HOLMES, was also supplied.

My apologies if you feel you have wasted your time on my behalf.
I did receive information re a birth for William Holmes in Formby in 1875 where the mother’s name is Harriet Holmes nee Bradshaw.
I have assumed, possibly incorrectly, that at that time the child’s surname must be the married name of the mother or her maiden name if the mother is unmarried.
The only marriage that I have found between a Joseph Holmes and Harriet Bradshaw is too early to be the Harriet on the death certificate in NSW.
I have then tried to find when William, Harriet and Joseph arrived in Australia.
Debra sent me an email on Friday advising that Harriet was not married to Joseph in England and that William was a Bradshaw. This makes the Formby birth incorrect.
Debra also said “The following info is pure speculation without documents but will hopefully give you something to work with so that you can find William’s birth.”
Please accept my thanks for all your efforts on my behalf and for the information that you have provided. I have given the details to Kerry who has Lettice Holmes in her family tree.
Regards
Jean
