This is probably a very silly question but I am having difficulty finding the birth details of two sisters born in Goulburn in the late 1800s. I have their death certificates through BDM NSW which lists their birth place as Goulburn but no details on BDM NSW regarding their births. Would the details be on BDM ACT? If so, how do I go about finding those? I looked at the site but couldn't see where I could search family history details as you can in NSW.

I'd be grateful for assistance from those who are more experienced than me in this!

Not possible.

The ACT didn't come into being until after Federation in 1901.

p/s my mother, Hilda Mary Hill born 1903 was born in Goulburn NSW and her birth is registered at the BDM, Sydney NSW Australia.

The names are: Annie (Anna) May Abbott and Amy Amelia Abbott. Both were married at some stage to William Herbert Langridge (not at the same time!). Amy was married to William first and died in 1919. Annie married him in 1923 and died in 1937. I just can't seem to find their birth details. Their death certificates state their parents as being Kate (on one) and Katherine/Catherine on the other - I can't remember if it was Katherine with a C or K and the certificates are in storage.

The ACT might not have come into being BUT when it did,,,,the ACT kept their BDM's to themselves...Just the same as NSW/VIC and NSW/QLD did...

Do NOT feel silly,,,,,esp when people are telling you something they have no idea about...

The ACT BDM's are not online but are kept by ACT BDM and you can apply for them...

Anyway,,Goulburn stuff would be kept there and not ACT,,,there is also church records for Goulburn..

yes that is correct that A.C.T maintain their own records but Jane was asking for information on a time frame PRIOR to the A.C.T coming into being so therefore there would be no A.C.T records recorded until AFTER 1901 , they would be N.S.W records so please do not state :
"esp when people are telling you something they have no idea about..."

They are kept in ACT...Same as was done with NSW/VIC and NSW/QLD after the states were sorted...prior to their being too

The ACT BDM's are NOT recorded on NSW BDM....as they are held by ACT....
No matter what date it was,,,,,when the states divided,,,,the ACT stuff was held and kept by ACT and the NSW was kept in NSW...

IF not,,,then tell me why we do NOT see ACT BDM's in the NSW register???
I know of alot of BDM's both before and after and NOT ONE is listed in NSW...

That's cause in 1901 when they divided,,,,the BDM's were NOT online....

Since they did come online,,,,ACT had their own BDM's

Kellie,You seem to have a problem grasping the fact that the A.C.T did not exist prior to 1901, you cannot record information for an area that does not exist.Perhaps you need a history lesson or a geography lesson.
To answer you question where were the registrations recorded , N.S.W, the area was N.S.W,the registrations prior to 1901 will be NSW registrations, they can't be anything else as the A.C.T DID NOT EXIST!!!
