I sure do need some help on this one!
Henry Salander was a Civil War Veteran.
Born in 1848 according to the 1860 census, where he can be found living with his widowed mother, Margaret and siblings in Webster, Bad Ax county, Wisconsin...he was born in Germany and immigrated into the United States via New Orleans in November of 1855.
I can see he served in Company G, 35th Wisconsin Infantry, and then was transferred into Company 161 of the 2nd Batt'n Veteran Reserve Corps.
A cousin discovered that he mustered out of the service in Brownsville, Texas
We can not find any additional information for him until he shows up in the Civil War Pension Index, listed as an invalid, having filed from the state of Wyoming...but I can not see dates and it does not list a county where he filed from.
The image is dark, but you can still read that it declares that this Henry Salander served
"G 35 Wis. Inf."
So we are sure that this is our Henry...but what happened to him.
He never shows up in census, and I have used LOTS of tricks to see if he shows up, but when I back search for the men who do show up, they turn out to not be him, by proof of previous census images...
None of us know if he ever married, had children, when or where he died, or where he was buried.
It was exciting to us to discover he had filed for a pension in Wyoming.
We sure could use some local expert help and guidance on this one.
