Is this is your John Benham. You said she was adopted in
Nebraska. John Benham, born 1897, Mass., adopted son of Edward Wilmarth, of Bazile, Antelope county, Nebraska. This was 1910 Census in Nebraska. I would assume he got off the boat at Portland and went to Salem, Oregon, did some time in prision and was married in 1930 Census. In 1933 in Wyoming, and maybe that 1940 Census will give you some answers.
