I have found even more on your Timm . John Henry the father was murdered by vigilantes in Morrisey, Weston Co, WY on Jan 2,1892. Tom Waggoner was also murdered by vigilantes on June 4,1891 at Merino (now Upton) on his ranch. After John was murdered his son Fred and others became hunted men as well. Fred Timm along with Fred Truax were murdered by Joe Elliot and J.A. Layton at Merino. Elliott was a member of the Regulators that rode into Johnson Co 1892.

They are buried in the Old Ridge Cemetery , outside Newcastle. If you would like more info on this family please write me at (mountainmama82@optimum.net). I also have a mislabled photo of Joe Le fors leading a group of regulators into Merino in 1892 when they killed John and several other cowboys .

Here is some info that supports what you said. The Timm listed is John Timm and his friend was Jake Trier. They worked for Ludwig Tetley a butcher of Merino. On Nov 7,1890 in the Newcastle news issue #14 pg 5 there is an article about them being arrested .Charged with stealing cattle . The 2 young men could not make bail although their employer later did make bail.

It seems that Dep Joe Elliot and J.A.Latham rode out to the slaughter house 2 miles from Merino and confiscated hides having brands of Shipwheel owned by Loomis and Anderson, and also 101 ear marks owned by Standard Cattle Co.

The cases lingered on for over a year. There are many references to it in the newspaper of Newcastle .

Tetley on the other hand had made bail by one Tom Waggoner. Waggoner then was promptly harrassed and charged with assorted crimes like bigomy and bribing a witness. We all know what happened to Waggoner.

Even as late as April 10, 1891 Timm was still being held in jail awaiting trial in the District Court . These trial transcripts and other info on Timm will be at the Wyoming State Archives in Cheyenne.

You should follow up on this as it definitely is part of what was going on leading up to the Johnson Co War.

Just because there was no name Timm being involved in the Johnson County wars does not mean it did not happen. Much of what happened had been covered up . At the same identical time and by the same group of people , namely the WSGA , there were over 30 murders in the Big Horn Basin area. And many were connected to the Johnson Co affair.. All covered up by powerful ranchers and politicians. What you need to do is check the cemetery and the newspapers for that day and week. Also the Wy Archives and the AHC.Also see if he used an alias. Did he file for a homestead. If so whose ranch or ranches was it near. After 25 years of research , I am working on a book that will expose this travesty .

You might want to query the library at Newcastle and see what they have on file for that name.
Nancy @ Johnson County Library @ Buffalo, WY

A distant relative, Ben Timm, and a friend were supposedly killed by ranchers in the leadup to the Johnson County War in 1892. He is said to be buried at Newcastle, Wyoming. I haven't been able to verify this via Ancestry; where can I go for further information?

Stephen, Thank you for replying to my post. It is always nice hearing from a new cousin. Martha Elizabeth Buck is my gg grandmother. She married J. M. Hughes in Clark Co., Arkansas on January 12, 1873. It appears she may have been the daughter of William Joseph Buck, but am still working on confirming that. Her father was known as "Joe Buck." It is not known what happened subsequent to her marriage to J.M., Her son John Henry Gardner was born in 1882 in Missouri but his father is not known. Then later in life she married Homer Lonzo Woodside. After Lon's divorce or separation from Martha Buck, he married again to Nellie S. Merryman in 1909 but ended up poisoning himself with strychnine, then shooting himself with a gun in Buffalo Co., Nebraska in 1917.

I still haven't been able to figure out the identity of your ancestor J. M. Hughes. I learned a lot about the Jarrards from my visit to Casper, Wyoming in September 2001 with my parents where we saw Marjorie Limmer and Laurie Longtine. And then records we found in Buffalo. I know that Martha had a brother named Ed Buck in Indian Territory as evidenced by correspondence, and that she also had a sister named Mrs. Armstrong from Alabama as evidenced by correspondence from her to Martha.

I hope that more evidence, such as old letters will show up. I would love to see photos of the portraits you mentioned. I'll be emailing you some photos of Martha.
I know this is a really old post - over a decade old - but Myrtle Shreffler was my great grandmother, who passed away in Casper, WY in 2000. I actually spent considerable time with Myrtle when I was younger, much more than I suspect most great grandparents spend with their great grandchildren.

That makes James Jarrard and Mary Jarrard my great-great grandparents. It would come to pass then that Martha Elizabeth Buck Woodisde was then my 3x great grandmother (great-great-great grandmother.)

My name is Stephen Thomas - born in 1984. Myrtle's daughter - Janice Shreffler - married Larry Mills (sr.) from Oklahoma and has always been (of course) Janice Mills to me. They had six children; Pam, Heather, Becky, Mary Beth (deceased 2008), Larry, and Jim - all of whom are now in the greater Oklahoma City with the exception of one in Colorado.

Just some info I thought someone out there might find relevant.

I don't have any info on Martha Woodside otherwise, although there are surviving original pictures/paintings of Mary Ellen Hughes Jarrad, James Jarrard, Martha Woodside and James Jarrard's mother in possession of my grandmother Janice.

Bob - Funny, my research begins in 1849 with my great grandfather John Clapperton who was born and raised in New Cumnock, Ayrshire, Scotland. He immigrated to the US in 1881. He had a younger brother, George, who immigrated to the US as well around 1909. Both John and George were sons of John Clapperton and Mary Hutchison who had 10 to 11 children my great grandfather being the oldest and George being the next to last.

Phil Clapperton, Washington DC

Where could I find a death record from Buffalo in 1904? The state says it only has death records from 1909 on. Catherine had children who married into other local families-Janet married Charles Conway, Agnes Amelia married William (Billy) Hill, and her daughter was Mrs. Helen Walker, the milliner, whose business is in the historical register. I am having an awful time finding information on them, other than some through the Wyoming Newspaper Project.Catherine's husband James was a violin maker and left the area after Catherine died.

Thanks so much for the information. I was looking for the death cert of a first cousin who died in Wyoming in the mid-late 1980s. I wanted to find out the cause of death, since she died relatively young. I am trying to track medical info on family members. I have a copy of her obit, but it doesn't state what the cause of death was. I had hoped it might be online somewhere. Thanks again for your reply.

This is the information from the Wyoming Department of Health regarding death certificates. Is the person a direct relative? How long ago did they pass away?

Death certificates may be obtained by:

•Immediate family members
•Lawyers representing the immediate family
•Bank, executors of estate, insurance company, or anyone requiring a certificate to pay a policy or death benefit on the decedent.
Required information:

•Full name on death record
•Date of death
•City or county of death
•Relationship to deceased
•Purpose for which copy is needed
•Signature of person making request
•Mailing address where record is to be mailed
•Identification: Requests must include a photocopy of the driver’s license, State ID card, or passport of the person requesting the certificate. We will also accept a notarized signature of the person making the request. The copy should be enlarged to make sure that it is legible.
Important Notes:

•The fee for obtaining death certificates is $10.
•If the date of death is unknown, a searching fee of $13 for every five years searched is charged, which includes either a certified copy or verification of the record if one is found. If a record is not located, your fee will be retained.
•Death records are on file since July 1909. Death records that are fifty (50) years old should be obtained from Wyoming State Archives.
Frank Langford

b: Either January 17, 1895 or January 27, 1896 – Clinton (Shawnee Mound), Henry County, Missouri

d: July 4, 1967 – San Luis Potosi, SLP, Mexico

bur: Cementerio del Saucito – San Luis Potosi, SLP, Mexico

Frank Langford passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 1967, at a local hospital in the state of San Luis Potosi, SLP, Mexico, at the age of 72 years, 6 months, 4 days.

He was born January, ca. 1895 [see reference above]. The son of William Perry Langford and Mary Francis Palmer. Brother to Maude Langford, Claude R. Langford, William Perry Langford, Jr., Monta Elizabeth Langford Williamson, Grace Langford Overbey, Stephen (Steve) Marion Langford, and Merle Langford Ewing.

He was united in marriage three times during his life. The first marriage was to [?] of Wyoming. This marriage was ended due to death, and not divorce. One child resulted from this marriage, May Nadine Langford. This left Frank a widow. The following marriage was to a Jennie of Mansfield, Tarrant County, Texas. This marriage was terminated by a divorce on behalf of Frank. The third and final marriage Frank had was to a Mexican citizen from San Luis Potosi, SLP, Mexico, Ms. Juana de la Rosa.

Frank was a veteran of the first World War (WW I). He tried Arkansas for a few months, and then went to Laredo, Texas. After a year and a half, he decided to make Laredo his home. During his time in Laredo, Frank would make trips into Mexico. Starting in 1956, Frank began using his 6 month visa to enter Mexico, staying for 6 months, and then returning. This was due to his finding his third wife, Juana, in Laredo.

That was in the fall of 1956, and in the spring of ’57, Frank Langford, Jr., was born. 5 other children blessed this union. They are, Patricia Langford (August 24, 1959), Pamela Langford (March 14, 1961), Grace Langford (April 11, 1963), Margo Elizabeth Langford (August 7, 1965), and Steve Langford (September 23, 1967).

Frank applied for a divorce against Jennie in 1959, it was granted, but his wife appealed. It wasn’t until 1960 that a divorce was finally granted to Frank. In 1962, Frank and Juana married in the US. In 1966, Frank and Juana married in Mexico in a traditional Catholic wedding.

Frank was a talented painter, writer, builder, and innovator. He is survived by a daughter, May Nadine Langford, of Dallas, Texas. His five children, Patricia and husband Dr. Carlos Hernandez; Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Mexico – Pamela; Austin, Texas – Grace; San Antonio, Texas – Margo Elizabeth; Austin, Texas, and Steve Langford and wife, Guadalupe Langford; San Luis Potosi, SLP, Mexico.

11 grandchildren, William (Bill) Frank Patterson and wife Donna Patterson; Dallas, Texas – Betsy Langford; Fort Worth, Texas – Carla Hernandez and husband, Rodrigo Quintero; Queretaro, Queretaro, Mexico – Gabriella Hernandez; Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Mexico – Carlos Hernandez, Jr.; Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Mexico – Pamela Brenda Villafuerte; Corpus Christi, Texas – Monica Villafuerte Langford; Austin, Texas – Christopher Alexander Perez; Austin, Texas – Samantha Perez; San Antonio, Texas – Alexalis (Sally) Ford and husband, David Ford; Humble, Texas, and Steve Andrew Langford; San Luis Potosi, SLP, Mexico. And one great-grandson, Daniel Len Ford; Humble, Texas.

This obituary was written by Steve Andrew Langford in February of 2010. For further information (or if you know more) about any person included in this obituary, please
e-mail: SteveAndrewLangford@yahoo.com

I am looking for information about everybody on this list, but most of all, of Claude Langford and William Perry Langford, Jr.
As I remember Laurel, Dean and Cleo Tillman along with a few others attended there that year. Doris and Wayne went to high school at Midwest, Wyoming that year.
My dad's place was the Pusgly of 160 achers. The Comer's lived across the county road from us and the Archie Tillman Family lived down a lain about a mile from us.
Dave Knighten

I am trying to find an obit for Earl O. Henderson who died in Buffalo, Johnson Co., WY in 1975 and is buried in the Willow Grove Cemetery. Also for his wife Florence K. Henderson who died in 1978 and I assume is also buried in Willow Grove.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Kathy Hughes
memere2six@aol.com

I guess my question would be: Are there descendants in the area who would be interested in the rest of the family which would be the descendants of Annie (Olson) Martin through her brother Charles? I would like more information about them.

Edward H is Buried in Boulder Cemetery, Sublette County Wy. I think William E is also buried in the Boulder Cemetery.
The Grinder family were our neighbors when I was a small child.

jm young
emyoung@vcn.com
