Steele - Pollock ancestors

Hi
I am trying to research further into my Grandmother's, Mary Elizabeth Maxwell (formerly Steele) family. I have records that show she was born in Wisconsin in the 1800s and later in her life she moved to Australia with her family - father John Pollock Steele, mother Mary Steele, and 2 brothers. Any information you may have in regards to these family's would be wonderful.
Thanks

Hi Alice, John. My grandfather's family are listed at Vorbrugge Kellinghusen. They are Hans Rathjen born 1796 at Vorbrugge Kellinghusen, he then died at Burg Dithmarschen 1827 - some distance north west. He married Abel Scheel who was born and bred at Burg. Hans' father, Ehlert Rathjen, died 1796 at Gronhude Kellinghusen. I regret I have no further information about this group. I do know that Kellinghusen and Homfeld and Aukrug are still today alive and well with many of this family name. Hope this helps - David Rathgen

Robert Normington was the first husband of Camille Oberweiser, daughter of Edward and Camille Oberweiser of Wisconsin. They had a child named Camille (who was always called Mima) and were divorced. Donald Gilpatric was Camille's second husband, and he legally adopted Mima so mother and daughter had his name from then forward (about 1936).

I want to thank RPokony for the information you sent me. It's hard to believe ten years have passed since I posted that request. I will now get back on the quest that I starter back in 1999 and try and fill in more of the family tree. Thanks to all that Post, Howard Haefner

My grandmother's "favorite niece" was Florence Adeline Langlois Scherer who married Charles Albert Scherer. My grandmother was Cordelia Julia Moquin McMurray.

I have several photographs of Florence but I do not recall any that included Charles Scherer to be honest. I would be happy to share if there is interest.

Charles Scherer died on 12/22/1969 per the 23 DEC 1969 edition (page 28) of the Fond du Lac Commonwealth Reporter.

I reproduce for you the text of Florence Scherer's obituary from the 14 NOV 1977 edition of the Fond du Lac Commonwealth Reporter. You will note in it the reference to Edna Mae Scherer as Mrs. Gerald Tessier of Green Bay.

Obit in the Commonwealth Reporter on 11 14 1977 Monday---
Mrs Florence A Scherer, 78, formerly of 15 N Mars St., died at 4 PM Saturday, November 12, 1977, at Care Center-East, where she resided for one month.

She was born on October 20, 1889, in North Fond du Lac, a daughter of the late George and Mary Moquin Langlois. She was married to Charles Scherer at Presentation Catholic Church, North Fond du Lac, in May of 1917. Mrs Scherer owned and operated Florence's Beauty Shop for over 20 years and also instructed beauty care at Taycheedah Home for Women.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs David (Geraldine) Krug of Fond du Lac and Mrs Gerald (Edna Mae) Tessier of Green Bey (sic), seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband in December 1970 (sic), and by three brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday at Uecker-Witt funeral Home and at 10:30 AM at St Patrick's Catholic church where she was a member. The Rev. Edward Sippel will officiate, and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs Scherer will be from 3 to 0 PM today at the funeral home.

His WWII draft card and death index state March 1882... If this was him, he would have had to moved from Wisconsin to Washington between June 1 and July 3 of 1905 to marry Carrie, as the 1905 census was enumerated June 1st, 1905.
I have a Peter H. Kuhl born in Duppach, Germany in 1825 and Married to Mary Catherine Finken of Duppach. They were married at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg July 7, 1851. I have that they have six children born between 1853-1867. One was named Margarette Ann. born at Fond du Lac on July 20, 1855. Perhaps that is a match as many used the middle name. Peter H. Kuhl died at Mills Co., IA in 1867 and his wife died in 1902 at Earling, Shelby Co., IA.

Researcher: Jim Schloegl - Email: MNLakes@hotmail.com

Gordon P. SUGGS (5 Dec. 1916 - 3 May 1995, FL)

Are you discussing the one on the Social Security Death Index: Gordon P. SUGGS (5 Dec. 1916 - 3 May 1995) last res. Live Oak, Suwannee, FL? That Gordon's family was also of Suwannee Co., FL, on censuses of 1900, 1920, & 1930. Does the death certificate name the parents of your grandfather and tell where he & his parents were born? RootsWeb says that Gordon P. SUGGS (5 Dec. 1916, FL - 3 May 1995, FL) was son of Benjamin Leon SUGGS, b. Jan. 1885, & Data M. SULLIVAN, b. 1889. Gordon P. SUGGS m. Kathleen BASS & Elenore M. On various censuses, parents were listed: Ben and Date, 1920; Bena L. & Datie, 1930; B. L. in 1935; & in Duval Co., FL, 1945, B. L., aged 60 [ d. ca. 1950 ].

FamilySearch pilot site has a copy of the 1900 Census, Twp. 5, P. 14, Suwannee, FL, all births in Florida, SUGGS:
Thomas L., b. Jan. 1856 [1855?], married 16 years [?]
Wf. Eliza J., b. Oct. 1867, had borne six children {numeral not too clear}, six living, sons
Benjamin(e), Jan. 1885; Artie F., Feb. 1886 {?}; Neal, Jan. 1891; Bertie, Nov. 1894; Homer G., May 1897; & dau Allie B., Aug. 1899.

FamilySearch.org has Thomas Lawrence/Laurence SUGGS (25 June [Jan.?] 1855, Lafayette Co., FL - 4 Sep. 1922) m. 19 Mar. 1896, Elizabeth J. JACKSON (18 OCT. 186[7/9?] - May 1947). However, another researcher on FamilySearch.org lists Benjamin's mother as Ella SANTERFEIT, m. Lafayette Co., FL, 11 Dec. 1881, so maybe they had NOT been married 16 years in 1900.

New Boston P.
I need help finding the father and mother of my great grandfather Levi Delaney born in Wisconsin approximately 1873-1874. I believe his father was Henry Delaney who had two wives. I don't know the name of his 1st wife which I believe is Levi's mother. Henry Delaney died in 1901 in Wisconsin. I am not certain he is the father, but the threads lead to him.

OMG, Gordon Philip Suggs of Suggs' Resort is my Grandfather! I just went up to Webb Lake about 5 years ago, strictly on the memory of a 5 year old and found it right away. It's on Knickerbocker Lane. The resort building itself is still there but the whole area is being developed. The resort looks exactly as I remember it as a child.

Would you be one of Janet's children? I know that my dad had a sister. I think her name was Janet. I don't ever remember meeting her. I was pretty little when my parents divorced.

I just started this project tonight and was prety sure that I found the birth certificates of my dad and aunt janet, and that my grandma's maiden name was Bass. I found grandpa's death certificate also.

Please, Please, email me when you check back into Ancestry.com! This is absolutely crazy.
