looking for birth family

I was born December 5, 1972 in Superior, WI. I was adopted when I was 3 mos. old. All I know of my birth family is that my mother was approximately 37 years old, had 7 other children and the oldest was a son who was 18 at the time. If this family structure sounds familiar to anyone, please help me. I tried to contact my mom through the state approximately 10 years ago and she refused contact saying that too much time had passed. I'm hoping perhaps some of my siblings would be willing to contact me.

Hello,
I am seeking information on ALYCE M BERG b. 22 June 1901 in Wisconsin and d. 3 July 1972. I believe her parents are John and Lina Berg. I have John and Lina in the 1930 WI census but no Alyce. Alyce may have been adopted and she married a Borry.
I really need to find Alyce's descendants.

Dennis

Greetings. Anna Rondeau was my paternal grandmother. My father was Earl James Gavigan. My understanding is that her birth name was Rondeau, but I have also found information in records under the name Rondo. The information that was given in the previous response is correct to my knowledge. The Wielke connection is tricky though. I find information under the names Wilks and Wilke. I'm very new to this, so I question the accuracy of my own research. I have and continue to try to find out when/how my grandmother died, as well as where she is buried. I visited the gravesite twice as a child, so I know it's out there somewhere near Fond du Lac. I hope this helps you and me,as well. If anyone can add more, I would be most greatful.

HI- I had a thought about Nulterger Yornbor. In 1870 she is still listed as Yornbor. I think that the girl's mother died in Austria, probably in child birth as Victoria was a wee baby. He either remarried or it's his sister. I thin k he remarried. Nicholas and Nulterger were only a year apart in age and most wives are listed as 'keeping house' as an occupation. :P

http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=...

THANKS!

I have discovered that most of the girls were born in Moravia- which I understand was Austro-Hungarian Empire at that time and now Czechoslovakia- hence she was Austrian at the time of her birth. Victoria was the youngest and born in Bohemia, about an 1 hour from Moravia. As the previous poster said, alot of Germans were there and got pushed out later after the war. I was told Victoria was Austrian and makes sense now. I also discovered through a cryptic note in the margin of a book I have is that Victoria's mother died in childbirth with her. She was born in Dec 1852 and they came to USA in 1853.

Thanks for your and to all posters)generous email...it has helped me alot. I have pictures in a box and I hope to have some names and faces to put together.

CAM

In case this helps - I've indexed just two Jambor entries from local German newspapers: adverts in 1897 to locate a missing Charles Jambor from Texas; and death notices in 1900 for a Frank Anderle (80 yrs), who was survived by someone named Jambor.

"Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950) / an ongoing, independent project created, compiled and edited by Gary R.
Czechoslovakia didn't exist as a country until after World War I. During the 19th century, Moravia was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Moravia always had a substantial minority of ethnic Germans, until they were forcibly expelled after World War II. Sigmund Freud was from Moravia.
WOW! How generous of you to send this to me! I will have a look but what I have listed regards to dates seem to be correct. But what you send makes perfect sense. I found my great, grandmother ALMA. :)

From your note, should I assume there are from Moravia, Czechoslovakia because Barbara lists it herself when she marries? Would anyone of them be from Zar, Austria? Or is that just a mistake? Very confusing. :P lol

Many, Many thanks. I'm very new at this, so this is a HUGE help!
Hello, I am not related. The name seems to be Yambor, and come from Moravia, Czechoslovakia.
The name you have for Victoria's mother is most likely not correct. I think Nulterger may have been a housekeeper that somehow was listed under their last name. I found the ship passenger list with Nicolas and his 7 daughters, including Victoria, and Barbara, whom I found some info on. The wife/mother was not with them, so she may have died there. Then there is a family tree on ancestry.com who has this family, including your Victoria, her husband, and their 2 children listed. Here is the info I found, and the link to the family tree.
Good Luck, Ruth Pokorny
-----------
The index states that they were Danish (Denmark), but looking at the actual ship list, I see that there were some persons from Denmark just above the Yambor family, and when it came to the Yambor family, the list stated they were from Austria, which the transcriber must have overlooked.

The Yambor family departed Liverpool, and landed at New York Nov. 28, 1853 on the ship Silas Greenman.

Ancestry.com New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957

Name Arrival Date Birth Year Port of Departure Ethnicity/ Nationality Ship Name

Nicols Yambor 28 Nov 1853 abt 1805 Liverpool, England Danish Silas Greenman
Franziska Yambor 28 Nov 1853 abt 1832 Liverpool, England Danish Silas Greenman
Maria Yambor 28 Nov 1853 abt 1835 Liverpool, England Danish Silas Greenman
Rosina Yambor 28 Nov 1853 abt 1836 Liverpool, England Danish Silas Greenman
Cecilia Yambor 28 Nov 1853 abt 1841 Liverpool, England Danish Silas Greenman
Barbara Yambor 28 Nov 1853 abt 1845 Liverpool, England Danish Silas Greenman
Josepha Yambor 28 Nov 1853 abt 1847 Liverpool, England Danish Silas Greenman
Victoria Yambor 28 Nov 1853 abt 1852 Liverpool, England Danish Silas Greenman
----------------
This seems to be Barbara Yambor, who married Orlean Porter, and they left Wisconsin and settled in Wabasha, Minnesota ..... the mother's first name was listed as Josephine.

"Wisconsin, Marriages, 1836-1930"
Name: Orlean H.
You need to look at other records: marriage record (actual record, not index), birth and marriage records of children, death records, obituaries, probate records, etc. before you can figure out what this obviously badly mangled name is.

One example (Jamber), but not definitive:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18059-54264-54?cc...

Hint: A J in German is pronounced like an English Y.

I'm looking for the correct spelling of my great grandmother's maiden name.

1870's Federal Census spells it YORNBOR.

Mother: Nulterger Yornbor
Father: Nicolas Yornbor

Because they were from Germany/Austria, the names maybe mis spelled.
I have an instance in my family research where an aged ancestor is listed on a ship list 1840s/1850s with family but no indication found that they arrived in Milwaukee with the family. The PERSI index helped locate an indexed source to their path - they stopped in Detroit for a couple of years before moving to Milwaukee.

Going through the most logical church burial registers in Milwaukee may be another way that may help you find Lisette Schiemann (nee Buchmann). In the Milwaukee area, those become a primary source in the days before civil reporting became more consistent (not necessarily the same as cemetery records). If you haven't done it already, narrow the search by years & most logical religion, earliest known family church and/or house address, earliest known burial location for anyone in the family group?

You might want to check in Iowa and Lafayette counties. Thompson is one of my family names. The following family names are all connected to one another: Rowe, Skewes (Skues), Kitchen(s), Noble and Thompson . The Rowe family immigrated from, England in late 1840's/early 1850's. The Kitchen and Noble families have been around since prior to the Revolutionary War with one branch dating back to the Mayflower.

Hello, I am not related. I don't really know what you are asking for, but I hope this helps. The marriage record for James Eugene Gavigan and Anna Rondeau show that James' parents were James H. Gavigan and Alice Henneberry, and Anna's parents were Pierre Rondeau and Anna Wielke. James and Anna had 15 children that I see in these records: James Eugene, Kermit Francis, twins Isibel Mildred and Doris Alice, Mabel/May Bell, Eugene, Lawrence, Beatrice, Clyde, Laverne, Carl/Earl, Eleanor, Betty J., Donald, and Geraldine. Isibel Mildred may have died as a child. Anna died sometime between the 1930 and 1940 census.

Anna's parents, Peter Rondeau & Anna Wielke seems to have had only 1 child, Anna. Peter was born in New York, parents seem to have been born Canada, and Anna was born in Wisconsin, and her parents were born in Germany. Peter's father, John Rondeau was living with Peter & Anna during the 1905 state census and the 1910 census. He most likely died after that. Peter & Anna were living in Fond du Lac during all the census from 1900 to 1930. Anna (Wielke) Rondeau must have died between the 1930 & 1940 census, like daughter Anna did. Peter then moved to Milwaukee sometime after 1935. He was living there during the 1940 census living with the La Pine family. Peter was listed as Great-uncle/uncle to this family. The 1940 census shows that Peter was living in Fond du Lac in 1935.

Ruth Pokorny
------------
"Wisconsin, Marriages, 1836-1930"
Name: James Eugene Gavigan
Birth Date:
Birthplace:
Age:
Spouse's Name: Anna Rondeau
Spouse's Birth Date:
Spouse's Birthplace:
Spouse's Age:
Event Date: 21 Sep 1903
Event Place: Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin
Father's Name: James H.
Brian-

You found the correct date of death for Jean. Jean was married to Henry Mathias BORRE. He died 5 Dec 1960. Henry and Jean had at least 3 children. Those children were; Thomas Borre, born 11 Oct 1948 and died 28 May 2012; Jean Elizabeth Borre, http://news.wilmettelibrary.info/1706013/data?n=1 , died 4 Mar 1950; and Gordon A Borre, born 28 Feb 1952 and may be currently living in Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin. Another connection would be; Peter P & Cheryl A (Demeuse) Walsh of Sturgeon Bay or Algoma WI.

It does look like Jean married John E Walsh after Henry died.

SISU!
John

John,
Many thanks indeed for the reply. Some of the info you have provided I had, but much of it is new, so thank you. I am very impressed with your findings, do you mind me asking if you have a connection to this family? Are you a local historian or a keen amateur?

Thanks again, I am closing in on finding some living rellys!! :-)
Brian

The U.S. Social Security Death Index (available on Ancestry.com) lists a "Jean I. Walsh" who died on 15 August 1988 whose birth date was 17 September 1918. Her original Social Security application was made prior to 1951 in Illinois. Her last residence was in Sturgeon Bay (Door County), Wisconsin.

Does that date of birth match anything you may have found for her?

Information on another web site shows a possible spouse: John E. Walsh (born 18 April 1919; died 6 August 1992), whose last residence was also Sturgeon Bay.

I've also searched for online obituaries, newspaper articles, and burial information but have not found anything yet.

Does any of this (limited) information help with a match?

The info on it will only be as good as the informants' knowledge.

A dc of that vintage should have relatively detailed data, date and place of birth, parents, cause of death.

The county seat of Door County is Sturgeon Bay. If you post on the Door (county) board, ask if anyone who frequents the court house in Sturgeon Bay, might look at the record for you and relay the data. You never know..........

You can obtain an non-certified copy of a dc here:http://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/vitalrecords/death.htm.

You might want to post a request on the Door, Wisconsin board and see if someone might have a look at the record, if that's possible. Every county has different rules of what can be reviewed. Obviously, you're interested in parentage, so include that in your query.

I am trying to trace my first cousin 2x removed whose father Robert Gordon (brother to my great-grandfather) moved to Illinois in 1911 and became a naturalised US citizen in 1918. She was born Jean Ingram Gordon in Cook County, Illinois. She had an older brother (Robert William Gordon) who died aged 8 in Chicago. I think she went to New Trier High School and was planning to attend Lawrence Uni in Appleton, Wisconsin but never went.

The trail has gone cold, latest record I have is 1940 Census when she was living in New Trier, Illinois, with her parents (Robert and Jane Gordon), aged 21.

I have found a death record for a Jean I Walsh, with the right birthday who died in Sturgeon Bay, Door, Wisconsin, on August 15th 1988. I have attached this record, which shows "Cert Number" down the left. Does anyone know how I could get the full death certificate to see if it provides more details to know if this is my relative?

I am very keen to discover who she married and if she had children (who might be alive and contactable!)

If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful!
Thanks so much,
Brian
