Am looking for descendents/ and information on Frederick Sherbert and Julia Kemp/f Sherbert. Fred was born in "Prussia", on or about 12/7/1822, died 1/22/1892, Julia Kemp/f Shebert born in "Prussia", 4/3/1832, d. 2/3/1898 Both are buried at Lind Center Cemetery. I believe that Fred may be kin to my GGGrandmother Lena Sherbert/dt who was married to Christ Becker from Lind. I believe that Lena Shebert/Becker was direct kin to Frederick Sherbert, but no leads at this moment in Waupaca Co. I do have verification on one of Fred's descendents that moved to Toledo, Ohio , .. if that would help.

Not much that I've found in the Waupaca courthouse thus far... (hey, I only get up there once a year!!)

Any leads would help right now..

Jon

I have information that she was born in Tischendorf, Pommern Ger.

They settled up in Marathon County, town of Berlin, in WI.
Would like to find out if John had brothers and sisters.

Looking for the ancestors of Osmond (Osman/Osmand/Osmund) Knutson, born WI (probably Scandinavia, Waupaca County, WI) about June 1860.

What is known:
From family records and Huntsville, Polk County, MN Federal census records of 1900, 1905, 1910 and 1920, Osmond Knutson, born WI was married to Bergit, born Norway, and had the following children, born in Polk County, MN – Marget (Feb 1892); Knut (Mar. 1893); Ole (July 7, 1894); Andrew (Mar. 1896); Gilbert (May 1898); Henry (May 1900, died Feb. 15, 1975, Polk County, MN); Thelma B. (Abt. Oct. 1902); John Oscar (Abt. Jul. 1904).
The family has no knowledge of Osmond’s parents.
Federal census records of Scandinavia, Waupaca County, WI 1860, 1870 and 1880 list Knut Knutson born in Norway about 1806 and wife Margaret born in Norway about 1828 with a family including Osman, born WI about 1860. The 1860 census lists a family with the oldest child, Bertha, born in Norway aged 2 years and Osman, born WI aged 1 month. Following census records include good collaboration of birth date of Osman.
Book “”From the Indian Land”, Malcolm Rosholt, Krause Publications 1985 lists “(Big) Knut Knutson from Setesdal, Norway and his wife, Margit” as part of the second wave of immigrants to arrive in Scandinavia after 1858. This estimated date of arrival in Scandinavia agrees with the family’s first WI born child, Osman.
Internet searches for vital records of the births of children and death and burial of Knut and Margaret have been unsuccessful.
Are there any birth records of Scandinavia that might confirm Knut and Margaret are the parents of Osman?
Thanks for any assistance!
John

In the Presbyterian church in Weyauwega is a red and white block quilt that hangs in a hallway over a staircase. The people of the town purchased the blocks sometime in the late 1800's and wrote their names on the purchased block. Someone then stitched over the signatures and the quilt was auctioned off. Later returned to the church a lady vicor found it in a closet and had it hung. It would be such a feat if someone in your society could make a list of the towns people. I would love to but live in KY and don't make it to WI. I'm afraid a piece of history will dissapear if a genealogy minded organization doesn't grab the chance for a bit of history.

I am trying to find information about my ancestor. I have a little trouble with his first name. I had thought it was Tom, but from the census I have learned it was actually Turgrun, Torgrin, or something like that. On his son's marriage certificate his father's name is given as Theodore. In any case, he seems to have lived in Iola his whole life after he immigrated from Norway about 1860. He was born in 1841 and was still alive in the 1920 census. He worked as a shoemaker. First I need to find out when he died and then hopefully I can find an obituary and some other information. Can anyone help with this?

Remains taken to New London, Wis.

There were few of Mrs. Chittenden’s New London friends aware of her demise until Monday morning , when the remains in charge of her son, Bronson, and her son-in-law, J. She was married in 1848 to L. B. Chittenden, removed to the west in 1856, and was for many years a resident of this city, the family ranking with the early pioneers in New London’s settlement. Here she resided until 1878, when she left to reside with her daughter, Mrs. Mittie Pinch, with whom she has since made her home, excepting three years spent with another daughter, Mrs. Helen McFaul, in California. During her residence in New London she lost by death her husband and her eldest son, Newton. The four surviving children are: rms. Helen McFaul, of California; Mrs. Mittie Pinch, of St. Paul, Bronson Chittenden of Iowa, and Miss Susie Chittenden, of St. Paul.

Her death was one of lingering agony from cancer, and the final moment came as a welcome release.

I'm trying to locate a family that lived in Waupaca county during the 40- 60's. I do not have their last name, but know there were 16 children in the family born between 1941 and 1959. The family was very poor and 9 of the youngest children were removed from the house and put into foster care in 1965.

I was hoping that a family that had this many children might be easy to recall. All the children would be in their 50's and 60's at this time. I know for certain that 3 of the 1 have passed away before 1974. I am a distant relative of them but all the documentation I have does not have their last name. I'm taking a shot in the dark hoping maybe you recall them.

They lived in the country, a very rural area in a yellow brick house that, at the time, had large burn holes in it due to a fire that was never repaired. There was a barn on the property as well. The sons had taken over the house when the parents moved away. The father worked at an aluminum factory. Perhaps if you even know where that may have been located, you can direct me to the town where that exists(ed).
Hello,
I am looking for information on the William Suits family of Waupaca Co., Wisconsin. William was born in Illinois in 1856. He married Bertha Oppor and had the following children:

Kate b. 1880
Eugene b. 1883
Edwin b. 1887
George b. 1891
Cora b. 1895
Emma b. 1896

The 1860 Census shows this family living in the Town of Royalton, Waupaca Co. At some point, this family moved to Snohomish Co., Washington, but moved back to Waupaca Co., Wisconsin.

I am looking for information on their children. Who were the children's spouses, and what were the names of their children? I am also interested in pictures if anyone has any. Thanks for the help!!

John & C(K)laudine Mortensen

Based on information in the 1900 and 1910 US Census of Waupaca Township, I have drawn the following conclusions:

1. John Mortensen (b. Dec 1862 in Denmark) and Claudine (b. May 1862 in Denmark) immigrated to the USA in 1884.
2. Their first child Alfred was born Oct 1884 in Wisconsin so it would appear that they were married either in Denmark, on the ship or shortly after arriving in US. The 1900 Census says they are married 16 years.
3. The 1900 Census reports Claudine bearing 7 children with 4 living. The 4 listed are Alfred (Oct 1884), Peter (Sep 1886), Carl E. (Sep 1889) and Ella K. (Sep 1891).

The Lakeside Memorial Park cemetery listing on the Waupaca GenWeb site lists 3 infants in lot number 422-L along with John and Klaudine who are in spaces 1 & 2 and their son Alfred and his wife Julia in spaces 5 & 6. The 3 infants are:

Space 10 - Johanne (1897-1897)
Space 11 - Otto (1842-1844) [I am hoping this is actually 1892-1894, a transcribing error.]
Space 12 - Carl (1888-1888)

Some questions arise:

1. Is my analysis correct and these are in fact Claudine's three lost children?

2. Is Ella K. actually the Ellen K. Mortensen shown in the Pre-1907 as being born 27 Feb 1891 in Waupaca County?

My particular interest in the Mortensen family is in Alfred (1884-1958) who married Julia Anna Christensen (1884?-1971?) the sister-in-law of my aunt Margaret Cook.

Help with the above issues and anything you have to offer is appreciated.
Don
I am looking for information on Tom Thompson of Iola. All I really know about him is based on the 1880 census. He was born about 1842 in Norway. His wive was Carrie, born about 1839 in Norway. He was a shoemaker. His children, according to the census, are Annie Thompson, Henry Thompson, Theodore Thompson, Regina Thompson, Boletta Thompson, Carl O. Thompson and Carrie Thompson. Carrie Thompson married Frank Black and Carl Thompson married Carrie Koeppen. Carl Thompson is my ancestor. There are a ton of Thompsons in this area and any information would be helpful.

Waupaca Republican - February 3, 1899

Iola - Married - Frank W. Black and Miss Carrie A. Thompson were joined by the holy bonds of matrimony at the Scandinavian Lutheran Church, at this place, on Wednesday of last week, at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Nelson officiating. Mr. Black is one of Iola's enterprising young men; has been in the potato business on the "corner" for the past three years and is a partner of Peter Olson of Waupaca. He is well liked by a host of friends here as well as at Waupaca, his former home. Miss Thompson is a daughter of T. Thompson, our shoe merchant, and is a highly respected lady and is well known is society circles. The slight snow storm prevented some from attending the ceremony. In the evening a reception was prepared at the I.O.O.F. hall for the, and a goodly number of presents and some cash were tendered them. No pains were spared in preparing the banquet, and a dance was given , at which a large number participated. The jolifaction continued until an early hour and all went home rejoicing and wishing the contracting parties much happiness and prosperity. A large representation was up from Waupaca. We all join in wishing them a happy voyage on the sea of matrimony
In answer to the question regarding the genealogy of ALEXANDER J. BARRINGTON and AGNES HARTMAN, I have indicated that family line with an asterisk before the information.

Sorry, but this is terribly long. I’m only posting it here in reply to the question regarding ALEXANDER J. BARRINGTON and AGNES HARTMAN and in case others are researching spouses or children of this obviously prolific clan. If anyone else needs more information, I recommend you join the Barrington Family group at Yahoo Groups and contact JAMES W. BARRINGTON (who is probably a member of that group) who was continuing the family genealogy originally compiled by the late DUANE BARRINGTON. Or, for JAMES W.
