I'm trying to find connections for John Schmidt (Smith) and his family who lived in New London. John was born Dec 1844 (1900 census), married to Augusta (Gusta), born Feb 1853 (also 1900 census).

Children (all born in WI):

Ida (b. 1877),
Herman (b. 1879),
Julius (b. July 1883),
Martha (b. Jan 1886), and
Walter b. Aug 1896

There was also a Quant family that lived with the Schmidt's from about 1900 to 1910. This included James (b. Sep 1853) and his children Elmer (b. Feb 1893) and Bertha (b. Apr 1894). James is listed as a widower brother-in-law, and all evidence points to him being married to a sister of John Schmidt, but since there's no federal census from 1890, there's a big hole as to what her name might be.

I don't have a whole lot of anectodal information. The only stories I have is that John was a heavy drinker, and that when Augusta passed away, Martha and Ida had a disagreement over a mirror, and never spoke again.

I've checked with the Quant boards, but no luck there, so I'm hoping for some help here.
