Hello -
Even though your post is over 13 years old, I will reply.
I am a descendent of a brother of William Henry Barrington who married widow Mary Ann Bates Hopkins. Mary Ann's late husband was Charles Hopkins (b. abt 1841, Waukesha County, Wisconsin Territory - Wis. became a state in 1848; d. 6 Nov 1862, Springfield Hospital, Springfield, Washington County, Kentucky - cause of death "congestion of the lungs.") Charles Hopkins died while in service in the 21st Wisconsin Infantry, Co. K (mustered into Co. G and then transferred to Co. K.)
William Henry Barrington, an immigrant from Co. Kildare, Ireland (who saw military service in a Confederate Mississippi regiment, even though he was a resident of Wis. at the time of his enlistment - a whole other story in itself) married Mary Ann Bates Hopkins 19 Sep 1865 at Parfreyville, Dayton Township, Waupaca Co., Wis. William Henry Barrington and Mary Ann had 2 children of their own: Benjamin and Mary Ann.
Mary Ann Bates Hopkins Barrington was the mother of Alice Iona Hopkins, born after the death of Alice's father during the War Between the States. Alice was born. 8 Jan 1863 at Amherst Township, Portage Co., Wis.
Alice married Henry Clay Van Airsdale (b. 29 Dec 1842, Marietta, Washington Co., Ohio.) They were married 1 Sep 1879 at the Waupaca County Courthouse, Waupaca, Waupaca Co., Wis. Alice was Henry's 2nd wife. His 1st wife, Mari died 10 May 1979 leaving him with 4 children from about age 10 or 11 and younger.
By now, you have probably found much more on all of them. Feel free to contact me. I have the William Henry Barrington / Mary Ann Bates / Alice Iona Hopkins / et. al. in my Ancestry.com family tree: Samuel Albert Barrinton Family Waupaca, WI. This is the link to the Alice Iona Hopkins page in that family tree:
