Records of this family can be found in the records of Trinity Church, Brookfield -- these records have been filmed by the LDS and are in the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Golda Meier Library Milwaukee Urban Archives or can be ordered through the LDS at your local family history library.

I have information on one branch of this family. If you are descended from the people below, please email me -- I have information on the family of Mrs. Wandschneider going back to Woedtke, Kreis Greifenberg Pomerania in 1620. Her mother, Caroline Hintze Zempel, was the cousin of my 2x great grandfather.

For the family of Johann Zempel, I have that this family belonged to Friedens Church, Milwaukee and most probably Friedens Church, Wauwatosa, in 1875. Friedens records show a wedding 20 August 1875 of August Zempel of Wauwatosa, son of Johann Zempel and Justine (Strohschein) Zempel, born in Bromberg, Posen, Prussia -- had been in the U.S. 11 years in 1875 -- and a widower (August was a widower)I think 3 months to Bertha Bentz, daughter of Wilhelm and Caroline (Kath) Bentz from Pomerania. (Once again, I think I have a home place for the Bentz family... I can look further.) Bertha had been 1 year in the US at the time of the wedding. The groom was 31 and the bride 22 at the time of the wedding.

I am assuming that this Johann and Justine were the parents of both Johann and August Zempel. A good thorough search of the Friedens Milwaukee and Friedens Wauwatosa microfilms would reveal this. I became aware of the relationship between my family and the Zempels rather late in my research, so I did not document them as well as I would have liked to.

Both Ella and Arthur Wandschneider married siblings into my Bartelt family, which I am researching. If you would like any of their information or decendants, let me know.

Referring to your ancestor Joh(a)nn Wandschneider, born 1826 in "Mecklenberg (Schroerin)" and died in Wisconsin.
There is a person in my family tree that might be his brother. Do you have any further information about his place of birth? (As Mecklenburg-Schwerin is just the parish.) I have also been told that there was contact between his and my family up to the 1920s.

The parish record books of Trinity Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin contains records of baptisms, confirmation, marriages and funerals. Book I covers the period from 1869 to 1922 and has been filmed and is available through Family History Centers of the LDS church and other libraries. Book II has not been filmed and is available only through the church office. There are 37 people with the names of Wandshneider and Wandsnider listed in Book I and 24 persons with the name of Wandschneider and Wandsneider listed in Book II. Book I is in German as is the early part of Book II. The rest of Book II is in English. The church also has photographs of most of the confirmation classes after 1906. Let me know if you need any specific records from either book, or confirmation class pictures.
