Picture of the Long Lake Dam

Anyone have a pic or know of a picture on the internet of the Long lake dam? I have a painting of my grandfather fighting a northern with the dam in the background. I just wanted to see what it looks like nowadays. The painting is from 1960 by an artist named Earl Gustaveson. Thank you for the help.

Seeking info on John Arbuckle and Mary (nee Lagoo ?spelling)-Washburn County. The family lived in the Shell Lake/Bashaw area - There was an Arbuckle "way stop" mentioned in the Washburn Co Historical Society's 3 volume publication. John was g-father of my father, Henry P Ferguson born in Shell Lake in 1906 to Sarah Arbuckle Ferguson. Other family names, linked by marriage or? include Andy Powers, his dau Cassie Lord. Unable to find details related to g-father John Arbuckle's birthplace. My g-mother Mary Lagoo was 1/2 indian, probably Objibwe - may have come from Minnesota. Also seeking more info on Fergusons, from Chippewa Falls by way of NY and Canada. Any info appreciated.

Augie Sorensen

Augie Sorensen, 74, Spooner businessman, died last Wednesday at his residence. Funeral services were held Saturday from Trinity Lutheran Church at Spooner with Rev. Thomas Bryanand Father Edd Senn officiating and burial was in the Spooner Cemetery.

Mr. Sorensen, a native of Luck, was born Dec. 29, 1907 and attended schools at Milltown. He was married to Ruby Olson in 1927 at St. Paul and they moved to Spooner in 1939 and he operated the Red Cross Pharmacy for 20 years for Holger Rasmussen, then purchased the business in the late 1950s. He retired this spring.

He was a former Spooner councilman and a member of the Spooner Chamber of Commerce and the Elks Lodge 1441 at Rice Lake.

Mr. Sorensen was active in the Spooner school's athletic department, serving as timekeeper at basketball games and running the yard marker at football games. During halftime of the 1981 Spooner Homecoming game he was awarded a Spooner's letterman' jacket and following the Homecoming game this fall he was awarded the game ball signed by members of the squad.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Bruce of Spooner and Jerome of Edmonds, Wash.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Hanna Sorensen of Spooner and a brother, Volmer of Madison.

A memorial fund has been established in his honor.

He was found in a Swamp on the West side of the City. at Spooner Clinic Oak St buried 9-23-1970

Sophia was born 8/19/1822 in Toronto Ont. she passed away in Washburn, Trego. on 3/8/1916 and buried in Earl Cemetery.

Many of these ancestors were buried in Hayward's Evergreen cemetery

Rudolph is buried in the Earl Cemetery. I can find no record of his wife Dorothea Handorf Rebo's death.

I had a relative Aron Alfred Puke (Poukey) that went to America in 1881. He was married in Sweden with Eva Christina Wennersten.
Aron went to America in 1881 and Eva christina went over in 1886 but they never met in America.
Aron married another swedich girl in Minnesota and Eva came to Wisconsin i think.
I know that she died in 1897-02-03 in Washburn and buried in Shell Lake Cemetery.
She came to America with her daughter Alma Eugenia.
I don´t know anything that happened between 1886 and 1897.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 21, from the Hyllengren Funeral Home in Rice Lake for Leonard McClelland, 35, of Cameron, who died at the Cumberland Extended Care Center on September 17 after a lengthy illness. Rev. Howard Lindsay officiated and burial was made in the Sarona Cemetery.

Mr. McClelland was born January 27, 1939, in the Town of Beaver Brook, Washburn County. He never married.

He is survived by his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Roy McClelland of Cameron; his grandmother, Mrs. Mabel McClelland of Menomonie; and two sisters, Mrs. Marion Malone of Barron and Mrs. Donna Vonderheld of Sarona.

My grandfather Melvin Peterson (or Pederson) son of Andrew Pederson and Annie (Olson)Hermanson, was born in 1888 in the Baronnette area. He had many brothers and sisters, most lived to adulthood, but a few others did not. I would like to find the names of these other siblings. I was unable to find any in the Baron county records in Menomonie. After visiting Barronnette I realize they may have live in Washburn county. I also visited Lakeside Cemetary and found a couple of Pederson children buried there. Who would have the burial records for that cemetary? Where would I find the Washburn county Historical records from 1883 to 1899?

GEORGE LIVINGSTON DIES AT SHELL LAKE

George H. Livingston, 78, a longtime farmer in the town of Bashaw, died Monday at the Shell Lake hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the United Methodist church at Shell Lake with Rev. Dale Shotts and Rev. Paul Bosholt officiating, and burial was made in the Shell Lake cemetery.

Mr. Livingston was born March 7, 1896 at Two Harbors, Minn., and had lived in Washburn county since his marriage in 1919. Survivors include two sons, Gilbert of St. Paul and Dudley of Shell Lake; three daughters, Stella Cusick, Valerie Nielsen and Shirley Stowell, all of Shell Lake, 20 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and three brothers, Francis of Shell Lake, Chrales of Walker, Minn. and Earl of Watertown, S. Dak. His wife, the former Aalice Whitford, died in 1944.

I am hopeing that someone has or would be willing to lookup a death date and place for me. I am trying to find the dd for Annie Amunson Clark. She married Andrew W. Clark in May 1909. On the 1910 census he is with his parents and younger siblings----listed as a widower. They were married in Washburn Co. as they are on the marrriage list for the Co.
Any help would be appreciated. That listing of their marriage is all the info I can find on her.Even the names of her Parents would help!

Mrs. Ollie DANIELS, a resident of the town of Evergreen for some years, passed away at her home there, Monday, August 29, at the age of 58 years, nine months and 16 days. She had been in failing health for many months.

Winifred Edith BISHOP was born November 11, 1890, at Eau Claire, growing to young womanhood at Cumberland and Trego. She was united in marriage with Ollie DANIELS on Dec. 24, 1910, and to this union nine children were born, two sons, Cecil and Jesse proceeding her in death.

Funeral Services will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock from the Dahl Funeral Home in this city, with Rev.M. R. Philpoft officiating, and interment will be made in the Earl Cemetery.

She was born in Minneapolis(Hennepin) Minnesota on 11-25-1892 & died in Spooner(Washburn) Wisconsin on 7-19-1964, Also her husband Anders Julius Henriksson He was born 5-8-1880 & died 9-21-1945 in Spooner. To complete my DAR application, I need the newspaper obituaries for my great-grandfather, George B. Smith, died Feb. 25, 1962, in Spooner, and his wife, Ruth Ethel Webb Smith, died January 20, 1910, in Brooklyn Township. I know these obituaries exist--I just don't have the full page with proof of the newspaper date and newspaper name. I am willing to pay a reasonable fee to a qualified researcher. When someone is declared dead after being missing for (i think) 7 years is a death certificate issued? My grandfather vanished and my grandmother remarried, but I don't know when. I hope someone here could guild me in the direction of locating a date of interment at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Birchwood. I've attempted to locate a telephone number or address for the Town Clerk or Caretaker of the cemetery, but, as of yet have failed to find one, this information would also be very much appreciated.
I'm hoping that with the information of interment, that I'll be able to roughly estimate the date of death for my great grandmother and acquire a copy of her death record (Susan M. Hobart - d:1965 in Dane Co).

Looking for descendants or researchers of the William M Elliott and Jeannette Purvis Taylor Elliott family of Stanberry, Washburn County area and Hayward, Sawyer County area.
Jeannette Elliott died 23 Jun 1932 in Stanberry, Washburn County. William Sr died in River Falls. Except for the two children below, their children live and died in River Falls.

son William M Elliott married Ida Unknown in approx 1900 and they had I believe 12 children, all of whom were born in Washburn County, and both William (died 1938) and Ida (died 1934) were buried in Earl Cemetery in Washburn County.

daughter Ethel Jeanette married Henry Chappelle and they lived in Birchwood and in Rice Lake and had 5 children.

Can someone do an obituary lookup for me for a Charles Amey (Eighme). This may be a long shot since he died in Alabama in 1947. He was a resident of Washburn County from 1910-1930. Charles was living in Birchwood per the 1920 census.

Charles Everett Amey (Eighme) was born 10/15/1877 and died in Montgomery AL on June 16 1947. He was married to Irene Grasley. Her parents were Gottlieb and Phoebe Phelly (sp?) They had two daughters, Doris and Lois Amey.

Mayme (Mary Nathale) Vassau of Shell Lake, Washburn County, WI married David Shesgreen, Jr. on 21 October 1903. They had 2 daughters before David died in 1907: Nathalia Christina Shesgreen, b.2 Feb, 1905, and Ceona Shesgreen, b 23 Jan 1907. Ceona married Harry Scott DRIGGS in Ashland, WI, on 19 Nov. 1927.
Mayme (Vassau) Shesgreen was the daughter of John Vassau, Sr. and his wife, Nathalia, who settled in Shell Lake in 1884 where they operated the "Vassau House" hotel.
I am a Shesgreen family historian and would appreciate receiving any information available on the descendants of Mayme and David.

I am looking for information on a Stephen (Steven) V. Barber. He was my G. G. Grandfather. He and his familes are recorded in the 1900 census in Washburn county. His son Mortimer moved to Oregon in 1903. William G. stayed in Spooner, and Chauncy Wallace lived in Minong before moving to Minnesota after Steven died.

We don't know when exactly Stephen died. It is rumored that he lived to almost 100 years old--his birthday being around 1820. There is a Barber listed in the death index as dying on September 25, 1905, volume 4, page 61. Name is unknown. Is it possible to find out the age and sex of this person? In 1926/ 1927 there was a family named Hahn that lived in Spooner, WI. The only information I have is Herman Hahn and Rachel Hahn, (nee White) and they lived at 717 Franklin Ave.They also at one time had a P.O BOX. The number was number 744 at Spooner, WI.

Am looking for more information on the George Kellar family that appears on Shell Lake 1910 household 98. George M is 50, his wife Flora E is 49, Laura E 23, Ione 17, Alice 14 and ??? 11. George is the son of Michael & Phebe E Kellar, Flora the daughter of William McDonald and Laura Jane Estabrooks McDonald Blood. George is listed as a carptenter, Laura as a public school teacher. The Washburn genweb site shows Alice graduating high school in 1913, Ione in 1910, Floy (may be ??? in census), and a Madge Kellar in 1921, and Laura marrying George Plummer in 1911.

Looking for a death date and obituary on Clinton Howell (b. abt 1869 in IA) He shows up in the 1910 and 1920 census in Chicog, Washburn Co., WI with his wife Lizzie and son Charles W., and in the 1930 census, he is shown in Chicog, Washburn Co., WI as a widow, and his son is two households after him.

I am hoping that he is the same Clinton Howell who was the son of Stephen Howell and Sarah Postel, and am trying to figure out all his siblings names, and to figure out whatever happened to his parents (last place I can find his parents is in the 1870 Buchanan Co., IA census)

Glad to hear there are others researching the family. I would be glad to share what I have.
I am related through William Elliott and Ida Eliz Hartshorn's daughter Jeanette Elliott.
Alice Elliott March 5, 1900- July 28, 1920 married Rexford Malcom Briggs ( my great grandfather). Alice died after the birth of their daughter Joyce Briggs who was born and died on July 14, 1920. Both buried in Earl Cem.
On May 6, 1923 Rexford married Alice's sister Jeanette (Nettie). They had 4 children. Rex and Jeanette are buried in Earl also.

There were 8 children in the William Elliott household that I am aware of.
Gertrude , Jeanette, Alice, William, Erna, Edward, Frances, Lois.
I have info on all of them to some extent.
