This young lady is my niece. She is serving in the US Navy, and about to be deployed overseas to Kuwait.
She will only be home for a two week period, not even able to stay for Christmas.
This is my gift to her and her daughter...
I am doing the leg work, research, documentation and paperwork for her application to the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War....
Much of the documentation is complete, but I have run out of funds to complete the task.
I have the death record for John Sallander, but sure could use his obituary article, but that must be complete with the proper citation for the DUVCW to accept it as documentation.
John L. Sallander died 3 October 1920 in Shell Lake, Washburn County, Wisconsin.
I also have the birth record, marriage record and death record of John's daughter, Hannah Ellen Sallander Fogle...but not her obituary article either.
"Ella" Sallander Fogle died 14 April 1916 in Shell Lake, Vernon County, Wisconsin.
It is my hope that it names her parents, husband and surviving children. I will also need the proper citation for her obituary if onc can be found.
Name of Newspaper, and location it is published at
Section of paper, page # and column #. (read L to R)
John's wife, Hannah Ellen's mother, also died in Vernon County...
So here is the date for that deaths, and perhaps an obituary will cover that material, in case the ones for John and his daughter, Hannah Ellen, can not be located....
Emily Jane Tilden Sallander d:27 July 1948
at Shell Lake, Washburn Co, Wisconsin.
We all say we want to "support our troops", so here is your opportunity to do just that. This is her ancestal Civil War patriot, not mine. This wonderful young lady wants to honor her patriotic ancestors, even as she herself serves.
I have already sent away for his CW Pension file, which has arrived. But we still need a few more bits and pieces of documentation with proper citations, and I have run out of money I can squeeze out of my budget.
