How exciting for me. You probably didn't know me - Rose left me and my sister when I was 2 years old. I know she went to prison for abandonment - it was all in my adoption records. I went to a family in Sheboygan, Wi and my sister was adopted by a family right there in Eagle River. I would LOVE to get a picture of my mother if you have one or know someone who does. And I would like to contact the living relatives even if it is through you. My phone number is 541-480-2880 and I would love to talk with you. I am meeting my sister for the first time at the end of this month or early April. Thank you so much for responding. My personal email is dachsi2@gmail.com and I would love to hear more from you! Have a blessed day!

Lin

John Kirby, 50, Montreal (Iron County) Wisc., died Monday in Sacred Heart hospital, Tomahawk, of injuries suffered Saturday afternoon when the car in which he was riding plowed into a bridge abutment on Highway 47 about one quarter of a mile south of Lac du Flambeau. Three others in the car were taken to Ironwood, Mich., for treatment but only one, Steven Rodman, also of Montreal, required hospitalization. He is a patient in Grand View hospital in the Michigan city. Except that the driver was a man named Mead the names of the other injured were not obtained at the time of the accident.

In a second accident, Sunday afternoon on Highway 51, three miles north of Woodruff, two young persons were seriously injured in a collision. Taken to Tomahawk for hospital treatment were Al Gibbs, Boulder Junction, driver of one car, who suffered a fractured pelvis, and Marie Kurb, Lac du Flambeau, a passenger in Gibbs car who suffered severe cuts and bruises about the legs and body.

According to a report by Traffic Officer Everett Wilson, Gibbs was going north on Highway 51 and started to make a U-turn at a road intersection. The car following him was unable to stop and smashed into the left side of the Gibbs automobile. The other vehicle was driven by John T. Padjen, Mellen, who escaped with bruises.

In another Saturday accident six persons from Lac du Flambeau were treated for injuries in Rhinelander after their car ran off Highway 45-47 about one mile north of Pelican lake. The mishap happened at night. Hospitalized at Rhinelander were Mrs. Elizabeth Polar, 34; her daughter, Dorothy 19; Donovan Diver, 19; and Laura Jack, 17. Treated and released were the driver, Raymond Jackson, 20; and the owner of the car, Jack Sharlow, 40. All were cut and bruised and Diver suffere a wrist fracture.

Source: Lakeland Times, April 1, 1954, page 1
Please help me with any relatives of William C. Langner & Minnie Beraenke both born in Price Co., WI. I believe they lived in Eagle River, WI for many years. My mother was their daughter Rosella, born in 1919. All 3 are buried in ER Cemetery. There were 9 living children in 1950 - most stayed in ER. I would like pictures if possible or any info available (good or bad). I was adopted when I was 2-1/2 to another family and so was my sister. I just recently found her. THANK YOU!

Both of the obits that you seek were published in the Rhinelander Daily News; the index is online at http://wigenweb.org/oneida/robitindex.html and directions on how to order the obit. Of course you can look it up on microfilm at the WHS in Madison. These obits may also be in the Vilas County News-Review.

Sorry but I can't answer your second question; most photos are put online by volunteers and each have their own preferences or criteria. Where did you see these photos published?

good luck with your research
Judy, volunteer cc Vilas/Oneida WIGenWeb Project
I have two great uncles that died in Eagle River (or at least that is where they lived). I am in Madison, so I may be able to look at the WI State Historical Soc for their obit as the SHS has a great microfilm collection. What newspaper should I look in?

They are buried in Eagle River Cem. Death dates were Nov 20, 1957 for William Besch and December 16, 1968 for Arthur Besch.

Second question: I noted that someone has taken photos of stones in this cem. and published them. Does the lack of a photo of either of these two mean that they do not have a notable stone?

Thanks.

In the 1920 census home is listed as Sugar Camp, Oneida, WI with a father of Peter Monen. In the household also lists Lily, Oral and John Monen.
Yesterday in an old photo album of a relative a picute was found of Aunt Fina and adopted daughter..no name though of daughter. My grandfather really wants some information on Edward since he died 4 years before my grandfather was born. And Grandma Ellerman never really spoke of him after his death.

What I do know is that Edward August Ellerman was born on Dec. 10, 1873 somewhere in Wisconsin and died sometime in Nov., 1936. I have no information on who is parents are or where they were from. So any help/information would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I'm looking for any information on Doris (Ellerman) Hanker. She was born on May 23, 1904 and married William Hanker. From census records I believe she had three children, Irene, Raymond, and Robert. Any information on Doris or William Hanker would also be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Sarah Bartlein

As you can see in Fern Habeck's obit, there is a sister listed as Joyce Youngquest living in Phelps, Wi. Is this your Joyce?

I will have to go to the Vilas News Review to do any obit look ups prior to 16, July 2003. I go once a week so on my next trip, I most certainly will do your look up.

Sharon

Sharon

Her interests included knitting, crocheting, sewing and quilting.

Mrs. Habeck was proceeded in death by her husband in 1984.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Robert) Croker of Eagle River, Wi. a son, Dale (Connie) of Mohomet, Ill. a brother, Arden Klabunde of Rhinelander, two sisters, Mildred Larson and Joyce Youngquest, both of Phelps, WI.; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

If you would like a copy of this obituary, you need to email me your mailing information with $2.00 to Sharon Rogers, P.O.Box 693, Eagle River, WI. 54521

Hope this helps.

Sharon
