I have indexed the Old Whitehall Cemetery this summer and will be glad to do lookups if anyone needs this information. The cemetery is located about 1.5 miles east of current city of Whitehall, Trempealeau Co. Cemetery contains approx 500 gravestones.

Hello Dave,
I'm interested in possibly finding a few ancestor's in your index, wow, this is great.
Niels Olsen or Olson, born abt. 1808
Kristine Asbjornsdatter/ Olsen/Olson, born abt. 1810-1812
Mathea Thomason/Thompson, born 1837-38

Names of course can vary because of the spellings.

If you have any questions, i will be happy to answer.

Thanks so much
Rachael (Nelson) Gehringer

Rachel,
I checked the index, and sorry to say that none of them are buried in the Old Whitehall Cemetery. At least, they do not have gravestones there. Are you sure that they are buried there? Did they all die in Trempealeau County?

Hi Dave,
Thankyou very much for checking in the index. The story was my Great Great Grandfather Niels or Neils Olsen or Olson and wife Kristine lived with Great Grandfather Olaus Nelson in Northfield during the 1880's. Since then, i cannot locate them in Northfield Cemetary and Pigeon Falls so i thought maybe in Osseo or nearby. So South Beef River Cemetary is also out of luck. So i decided to try Whitehall Cemetary. They were in their prime age then about 72. Mathea was their daughter, Olaus's sister. I seen her last in 1870 when she immigrated from Norway and that was it. She was a widow then and came with her 2 sons, Claus Martinus Thomason and Gustav Thomason. She left her oldest son back in Norway. He may have have immigrated later on.
Can't figure where they could be. Great Grandfather is buried in Northfield Cemetary but no Niels and Kristine and Mathea.

Thanks for inquiring and thanks again looking this up for me.
Have a great day.

Rachael

Dave, could you please look for a James Wood, died about 1868-1870, and a Louisa Wood, a child, between 1870-1880?

Thanks ever so much!

Helen

Helen,
I had a look in the Old Whitehall Cemetery Index and there are no WOOD’s living there.
However, I just finished a alpha index of the Whitehall Lincoln Cemetery. This is the main city cemetery, located in Whitehall. This alpha index was done on data recorded in 1982, but didn’t have an index. So, the data is almost 25 years out-of-date but should be current up to 1982.
There are a lot of WOOD’s living there as follows:

Adelbert, Alta, Alta, Archie E, David, Deacon Alvah,
Elsie, Emma M, Ernest V, Florence I, James L,
Jane M, Jimmy, Kippy, Louis J, Maria S, Mary L
Mary P, Olive, Ralph W, Martha

The James L has dates of 1867-1933, buried next to him is Olive, 1869-1933. There was no Louisa.

I will be happy to provide the dates etc if you want.

James might be my grandma's uncle, I am not sure where he lived. I;s his father I am looking for, but if he isnt there, he probably died in Canada. Thanks!

Are there any Kenyons in the Cemetery? I am looking especially for Lyman Kenyon, died between 1870 and 1880 in Arcadia, Trempealeau, and his wife, Melissa, who died after 1880. Thank you.
