Violet Hazel Dietrich of Hudson passed away Sept. 22 at Fairview Southdale Hospital of Edina, Minn. Violet was born Jan. 15, 1909 in Cumberland, one of 14 children of George Benjamin Franklin and Maria Rose Anna (Dutilly) Jerry.
She attended school in Cumberland and graduated with the Rice Lake High School class of 1925. She also attended Normal school, graduating in 1927 and later in life attended the University of Eau Claire night classes and graduated with a bachelor of arts in education.
Violet spent 38 years teaching in the Wisconsin Public School system retiring in 1969. Her first love was teaching, but she also enjoyed reading, gardening, singing, playing piano, fishing, playing cards and swimming. In her younger years she was a member of the Croquet Club.
She was a former member of the Swedish Lutheran Church in Cumberland and First Lutheran Church of Exeland and taught Sunday School for both congregations for many years. She was currently attending Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Houlton.
Violet grew up in a farming community near Cumberland. After her marriage to Walter (Slim) Dietrich in 1938, they lived on the Dietrich farm near Barronette until 1947 when the family moved to Cumberland.
In 1952 Violet and Slim purchased her parents farm near Exeland, where they lived until 1976. FolIowing Slim’s death in 1976 she relocated to Hudson, where she resided until her death.
Violet is lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses, Twylah (Larry) Suhsen of Delano, Minn., Nadine (Ron) Hepp of Princeton, Ill., Pamela (Al) Neuendorf of Hudson and LeMoine (George) Hargett of Katy, Texas; her grandchildren, Kymberly Tabery of Greenfield, Minn., Kami (John) Dahl of East Union, Minn., Kandi Suhsen of Denver, Colo., Ky (Kris) Suhsen of Hudson, Heather (Troy) Boesch of Loveland, Colo., Leslie (Larry) Lund of Princeton, Ill., Aaron Hepp of Anna, Ill., Allison Poska of Denver, Colo., and Lauren Poska of Katy, Texas; and by her great-grandchildren, DeAnn, Jason and Delissa Tabery, Benjamin and Daniel Boesch, Chloe and Olivia Lund and Jade Suhsen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; daughter, Margaret Ann; and siblings; Mary Elizabeth, Isabel Daniels, Frank Franklin Jerry, Daniel P. Felix Jerry, Pearl Evalyn Buzzard, Cynthia Roseanna McCloud, George Woodrow Napoleon Jerry, Bessie Vermillion McClaine and Ruby Lovalla Hause.
Violet is affectionately remembered by her sisters, Myrtle Applebee of Detroit, Mich. and Ethel Jordan of Libby, Mont. and her brothers Albert (Delores) Jerry of Grand Rapids, Mich. and Steven (Donna) Jerry of Exeland.
Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 and at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 26. Funeral service was at 11 a.m. at Family of Christ Lutheran Church, Houlton, with Pastor Mark Schreiber officiating. Music was by soloist Barb Garden accompanied by John Garden and Joy Schreiber, and the Family of Christ Lutheran Church Choir.
Pallbearers were Ky Suhsen, Aaron Hepp, Jason Tabery, John Dahl, Jim Jerry, and Tim Jerry. Interment was in the family plot in the Lakeside Cemetery, Cumberland. Memorial are preferred to the Family of Christ Lutheran Church, the Day-Away Program or the Special Children’s Center. Services were entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, Hudson.
